With the tailgate open you can central lock both doors for anti car-jacking security purposes by pressing the central locking switch on the centre console.

For instance, if you have the central locking on when driving but then you pull over to drop junior off for football practice, as soon as he opens the tailgate press the central locking switch. He can get his bags out from the back and you can still have both doors locked, even with the tailgate open, while he's getting his kit. This can be done with or without the engine running (and also from outside the car remotely). Once the tailgate is shut, it too will be locked (and if done remotely the car will be alarmed too).

Blue_Dream, define a "safe enough" place or do you think car-jacking criminals only operate in certain areas?

The feature also works when the passenger door is open, for example dropping off or picking someone up (but you need to remove key from ignition first) . Keep driver's door closed and when passenger door is open, switch off, remove key from ignition, press the central lock switch, reinsert key and start up again. Driver's door remains locked and passenger door will lock once it is shut again.

well car jackings dont happen around my place and usually would happen at night in a quiet area, your obviously somewhere populated unless your dropping your kid off to footie out in the woods somewhere, sure it would be ok to wait until the boot was shut to lock the doors, coz if its that bad its would be bit risky opening the door at all, maybe they should jump out while car still moving to be on safe side!!!

Okay bud, I'm not gonna get into an argument with you. We will agree to disagree on methods to help prevent someone becoming a victim of car crime which was the spirit in which I started the thread. Btw, the example in my original post was not autobiographical.
