Ok i bought a top of the range Dell xps 1710 system when i had my knee op and 4 days later the new model came out the 1730

So i sent back the 1710 and taken delivery of this now including blu-ray and all the bells and whistles.... BUT,,,now i find out Alienware are bringing out their new laptop monday with the new 8800gtx sli chipsets in so have rang Dell again tonight and am sending this back tomorrow..(they aint happy with me!!)
This is the Area 51 laptop at the moment which will be updated monday with the mx17

The new Alienware i think will be alot dearer specced with the t7700 santa rosa , 4gb ram and twin 8800gtx cardsbut want to know if anyone has any dealings with Alienware and what the quality of them are like although i know they have a reputation for serious gaming rigs...

They are meant for the serious gamer, or hacker if you believe Die Hard 4.0 - LOL. Exceptionally good machines, and if I had the money I would spec one up myself - last time I did it came in around 3.5K for what I wanted. Never heard anything bad about the service or reliability of their machines - if you can get one then I would ;)

If I had the coinage, Alienware is the way I'd go. Pricey, but good stuff.

getting a new Dell laptop in the next two weeks, we do high level CAD work so need pure number crunchers withy amazing graphics, the flip side is that they are unbelievable for playing games. Currently running a Dell M70 but getting a M4300 or a M6300. Not sure how they would do for you though. They don't list all the fancy stuff that gamers "need" but are amazing none the less

Thats the problem in my world mate..........it doesnt really matter if youve just bought the latest one that was released today 1 week 2 weeks 1 month later a new one arrives that little bit better than the last and you wished you'd have held out for it but to be truthful you'd be waiting forever...!!!!
Best to get either 1 step behind the latest technology and save lots of pennies or take the plunge do your research talk to the trade and find out whats coming out and pin point when you buy and then live with it for 2-3 years just like our cars.
Gotta love alienware though Marc.... a good friend of mine owns bios magazine and he has reviewed an earlier version of that laptop here....

I have been in touch again today and to be honest the setup of this new laptop unveiled in the states on monday is beyond belief.....Nvidia are announcing the 8800gtx chipset for the mobile sector and the power of them is unreal....I really cant understand Dells marketing strategie releasing the 1730 with 8700 gt,s in sli when literally 3 weeks later their parent comapny they have bought and own are bringing out a laptop that will blow it out of the water???
Cost i know is going to be 3k with the spec i want but sometimes you have to justify price over useability and i use the laptop 6 hours every day so its worth every penny to me aswell as the fact i am looking at attending some lan partys again next year and really cant be ars*d lugging my desktop around for another year...
I just hope blueray plays on this unplugged as my dell wouldnt??? I appreciate that the battery will drain shortly but it should play at least....
My xps playing casino royale blu-ray on mains

and on the laptop battery

I can only prsume something was amiss with the laptop because i had the processor set to run maximum power even when unplugged , never go into save power mode , and it never worked??
