I am trying to chase down somebody from Vauxhaul that can answer the following questions for me please.

1: Price of VXR8 rear bumper with reverse parking sensors fitted?
2: Price to get my HSV GTS chipped for the UK ie change out the Australian Km/h chip for a VXR8 Mph chip?
3: What are the cats and exhaust sytem fitted to the VXR8?

My GTS will be on it's way over shortly, ie June, and I am trying to get everything sorted prior to being put on the ship. Any help would be fantastic. I want to be able to stick my plates on the car once it arrives and drive it straight home.

Thanks in advance.

Exhaust and cats are the same. Bumper is the same apart from foglight (sensors are in the same psoition) and sorting a price for speedo change.

www.wortec.co.uk (http://www.wortec.co.uk) for pics of bumpers etc.

www.hsv.org.uk (http://www.hsv.org.uk) for UK owners club

Welcome!

Thanks Caspy,

I have spoken to HSV in Aus and they told me that the whole rear bumper will have to be replaced as the rear foglight is moulded in just for vauxhaul. This means I will have to take my GTS to vauxhaul and get them to replace the rear bumper and wire in the required switch for the rear fog light.

Cheers

Not strictly true. And a rear bumper painted and fitted is nearly 2000 + cost of light!

PM me when clolser to getting the car here, we are just doing a similar change to another customers car.

You will have less stringent requirements to achieve if you have owned the car for 6+ months so you may be better off fitting an external fog light and forgetting about the rest. The VXR8 has a switchable dash so you can go kmph to mph with a couple of button presses. Alternately you can probably recalibrate the ECU to tell it there are more signal pulses per km and thereby scale 1.6:1 and pop a sticker over the kmph. Like the earlier model could do.

It depends how much you want to spend to get it compliant.

Obviously buying all new VXR8 stuff will work, but your bottom will feel sore afterwards.

Caspy can help sort you out if you want to go the oem vxr8 way. And possibly even the 2nd option way too.

Thanks guy's,
I have sourced a new speedo facia in Aus and will be getting it fitted shortly. Didn't know about the switchable dash in the VXR8. Any idea what the button presses are? I have been through the GTS menu but can't see anything in it regarding a change.

I have to be honest when I say I'm not looking forward to putting that god awful light on the back end.

I will have owned the car for nearly a year by the time it arrives in the UK, so I manage to get some leeway. It will be going on the ship at the end of June. Looking forward to getting it out on the roads and letting it stretch it's legs.

Hi
I think we have exchanged emails before, some time last year maybe.
The UK exhaust spec was developed to a quieter UK external noise requirement than the Au/NZ system. Externally they look the same but are different part numbers. Hopefully as you have owned the car, you may only be required to prove it meets Euro 3 emissions and not need to do an external noise test. We can lend you an exhaust for this if necessary and help with official HSV reports if required. The UK VXR8 Engine ECU is also different.
We imported a new GTS last year and got done for having to meet Euro 4 emissions, which needed a special piece of engineering work conducted at our HSV factory in Melbourne.

Rear fog lamp
This is a simple kit, of lamp, bezel, brackets and bolts.
Unfortunately the circuits are not in the domestic GTS to support the rear fog lamp. Not a difficult job, but an auto elec would need to be instructed on how to wire it up and we could supply this information.
The next problem is that the BCM (Body Control Module) controls the rear fog indicator in the dash (a requirement) thru the serial data line and this would require the BCM to be flashed with the VXR8 calibration. The headlamp switch is different on UK spec cars and there are two switches depending on chassis number. I have a record of all the HSV part numbers and can order for you if required. You do not need a new bumper for the fog lamp addition.
You could take the view that you will connect this up seperately with it's own warning light.

MPH dash
As this is a UK part, the New Zealand version of TIS / Tech2 may not be able to setup the dash for the car but this can be done in UK.

Magnetic Ride Control - The HSV UK Centre has the necessary Tech 2 software and parts to service the MRC for you as this is not a UK fitment. If you register with us when you arrive, we can keep you up to date with any re-call actions for the whole car which affect specifically Au/NZ cars but not UK cars.

VXR8 Parts required - Dash, Headlamp switch (includes rear fog s/w), 2 types depending on tag number, Fog lamp, Fog lamp mounting bracket, Fog lamp bezel, Bolts (3 types)

Hope this helps.
Phil

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the information. Yes we have been in contact before. I have been waiting patiently for a parts list to come from you, so I can get as much done as possible prior to shipping, and it hasn't arrived yet. I have sourced a company in Melbourne that will make a new facia for me in MPH whilst keeping the HSV logo. It just means that I will put the car into the dealer to have it fitted.

I am currently looking at qoutes for shipping the car out to the UK on the 19th June.

Being that I don't know how the UK registration system works I am looking for someone that I can ship the car to, get the required work done on the car and get it registered. That way I can turn up, collect the car and enjoy it on the UK roads on my way home to Scotland. If you guys can help me out with all this and give me a rough idea of costs. Then you are the man for me and I will have the car shipped directly to you.

Cheers

Sorry mate, I had assumed you were talking locally to Australia. I will rush on and get you a price for the part numbers you need. I will email you off line with other help as well.

I am importing my Chevrolet Lumina SS (yet another name for the Holder Monaro 5.7L 2006 model but this is a LHD version) from Dubai where it was my car for a couple of years whilst I worked there (where I could fill it up for 10 quid :D ).

Anyway I was faced with the KPH issue and have traced a company who does replacement dial backings with both KPH and MPH calibration in the UK at Sales@lockwoodinternational.co.uk ..... you might find them useful and they seem to know their stuff !!!

As for the fog light I was looking to see if there was a redundant cable that Holden might have laid in for us but it now seems that is a no hoper after reading this thread.

After looking at what a lot of the importers of the high performance Rice Burners do (it seems they have the same problem when they import their cars from Japan etc) I am looking to do what they do.

They change the offside reversing light to a High Intensity rear light by using a poweful red LED light from Halfords (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_20 3929_langId_-1_categoryId_70557). I would then wire this into the same curcuit as the front fog lights so it comes on at the same time as them (and also lights the warning in the dash). I am hoping the low current draw of the additional red LED light will mean I do not overload that curcuit and thus simplify the whole affair and not have to add an ugly external light. I am interested in hearing the comments on this in case I have missed something ????

I have managed to find a company in Aus to sort out most of my problems. As for the rear fog light......a new wiring has to be installed and by all accounts a seperate switch as well. As for the rear foglight, having great problems trying to find someone who can/will make the led light for me. I have also been told that I have to fit the VXR8 foglight to get my GTS past the SVA test. But once past this I can change the light.

I tried to look at the link but as I am at work the company pc says "NO"

Excellent info Phil. Do you guys do Vauxhall VXR8 servicing/warranty work too?
Are you aware of any BCM upgrades for the Infotainment console, as mine and few others is exhibiting intermittent cut outs.

Can you just explain what you mean by this because I also believe I may have seen the problem on mine.

Well, we could do but we don't. Under our agreement with Vauxhall for being the only approved VXR8 Tuning Specialists we do not import spares or compete with dealers on servicing and I am very happy with the arrangement. We can provide technical assistance which we do, and help with the older HSVs which we service and obtain parts direct from the factory, even service booklets.
We also import HSVs, currently have 5 VE Maloo orders and one 7 litre.

We have a little map put up on our new web site to help find us for the upcoming open day, I will try and get a better map as most visitors call us from about two miles away - lost.

I am aware of the Infotainment comments made here but not experienced them. Will find out the latest and post back.
Phil.

Thanks Phil,

Mystvxr basically the console screen dies and you can either pull fuse 7 in the kick panel (From memory) or wait for it to come back to life. I understand the issue is being worked on. The BCM is BodyControlModule, handles stuff like central locking, cruise control, abs, alarm etc, should also handle aircond, stereo too so might have something to do with the issue or be able to patch it.

Ive logged it with a dealer and will drop it off for them to take a look, though I dont imagine they will be able to do much with it yet.

Inconsistent centre screen blanking - check it by pressing at the four corners of the unit. If the screen comes back to life then the connection at the back needs looking at by the dealer. If it's not this then it's a new problem.

Cool thanks. Dealer couldnt fault it at the time.

I have to return to them to have GM check my trans is not good. Noisy and hard to shift into gear. 5000 miles :( Could be a swap job.

Our SC demonstrator which has had a hard track life was showing slight signs of shift difficulty and we changed the clutch fluid. It's been great ever since. It will have even more work to do soon as the car is in the shop for our latest WP 122 SC.
