i made mine from a piece of black perspex, the size of the indide of the vent and with a 54mm hole drolled through the middle. you then need to chamfer the rear of the perspex on the O/D so it sits flush inside the vent to enable the silver facia to clip back on. the inside of the vent needs pulling out and bits cutting off.
i'll get some pics up in a bit

put a new boost guage and surround in today as the last boost gauge with the smoked screen are useless in the daytime lol!
what i used
sheet of carbon
pencil
lid off coffee container
gauge sunshade
scissors
fine sandpaper
blu tack
sheet of carbon

vent surround where the carbon surround rests against on the inside lip

the gauge comes with a sunshade which fits around the body perfect so i used this as a stencil

then about a hours later with an aching hand from sanding it down..

then put some blu tack around the back to make sure everything stays in place!

finished! i need a new vent surround! see the chips on it :( dont think theres really away of getting it off without being a bit brutal! and be careful with the dash as it can dent easily if you lever anything underneath the surround!

try to get everyting as tight as possible ie surround in vent and hole in the middle for the gauge! my last surround wasnt and was just a flimsy piece of plastic! so wasnt very stable! the carbon is quite stiff though so it doesnt move inwards if you push it with the weight of the guage onit!

why dont you pull all the innards out of the vent, then with all the flaps removed there should be 2 holes that the pipe and wires can be pushed through. no need for blue tack then and will be 100%

decided to keep it how it is because the vent is also a bugger to get out once in and dont want to risk damaging the dash
the blu tack looks abit of a bodge but you cant see it once in! and it wont budge so im happy enough with that

if you look at the second picture of the vent ring.. on the lip where the carbon sits to there is like alittle bit of plastic sticking out stopping the surround fitting flush if you see what i mean lol? hence the little chip on the edge

Got it thanks, that clears that up, not always clear in pictures, just a thought, would it not be better in the drivers side centre vent, or is it a matter of choice ?

well its a choice really can have it in any! i would have thought the centre vent would be harder have to move headunit etc etc and also i got a flip out screen which would cover the gauge and my drivers vent kind of popped out when i was fitting a phone holder to it!
had ago at getting the vent out before and it was just causing damage so was just going to not bother with the gauge there! so lucky it kind of popped out
