Imagine the car is locked, and you are walking towards it.
Keys in pocket, walk towards the car. The car will be locked and remain so until you pull either handle or boot catch. Once pulled, the car unlocks.
Push the stop/start to start car. This will only work if you FOOT IS ON THE CLUTCH or BRAKE. Hold it down until the engine starts fully, it is NOT just one quick push and everything starts.
Once journey ends, stop engine via button and get out of car, closing all doors. There are 2 horizontal strips on both door handles. Touch the strips WITH ANYTHING (i.e finger, hand, bum if you want), once to lock it, and twice to alarm and immobilise it.
The plastic piece of rubbish you were given that looks like a glove compartment key is you SPARE CAR KEY should the keyless system fail.

Sometimes the system becomes sticky and does not work brilliantly I have found.

Well i know i will sound dum saying this but i use to think if you walk away from the car it will lock by itself, but boy was i wrong, you have to do the finger thing or lock it with your thob.....Dont know if anyone else has been doing this with keyless entry, make sure you dont as the car stays unlocked ........

It only locks itself if you unlock it and dont open any door for around 1 minute.

This works for the normal "key" entry. As long as you don't open any doors after unlocking the car, it will re-lock itself. Lock only though, not dead lock!

i thought this system was really good? and it requires no fannying or fingering around?

Its a very simple system, so hastle free its great.
As PD says...
U just open the door as u would any other car, and if u have the remote with u in your pocket or so, it opens. If u dont have it with u, it will remain locked.
Press start to start, press it again to stop.
Get out, close door, touch the handle with ure finger and its locked, simple as.

Well its now good news for those who are thinking of buying/upgrading to/renewing an Astra (or Zaf for that matter) VXR...
...the keyless entry and start option is now standard :D
I think a starter button is the icing on the cake in a performance model, so Kudos to the big ‘V’ in all its wisdom =D>

daft one here - I am one for checking all door's are locked after pushing the button to do it (lets say i'm not very trusting - I want to know it's locked)
Pretty impossible to do with my new motor. Lock it, check drivers door locked - fine, check tailgate - bang - it opens - *******s.
Here's hoping it never fails and leaves the car open. I don't fancy walking 10 ft away or whatever and saying "here mate, hold my keys till i check it's locked" lol

I reckon you've drilled a hole in your fridge to check that the light goes off when you shut the door :o:D:o

right guys iam also one of these guys that got to check if my motor is locked so pressed the lock button last night by button and the door logo is flashing what does this mean does it mean its armed??
also if i press the strip twice does it mean its alarmed and imoblised as last night i couldnt open the door when i pressed strip twice i had to press the unlcok button on my fob!!
and another thing say if i go for petrol and the misses was in the car does it lock itself then and arm or not?? cause i dont want that going off when the misses is stuck in there>>>??

Had my car 3 months, just read this and almost cacked my pants.
I have only been fingering my car once and not twice.
Looks like it needs to be done a couple of times to have the full effect.
Good job I read this.

The sensor on the door is nothing more than a gimic and does exactly the same as the key fob.
Press either once and it locks the car, activates the alarm and immobliser
Press it again and it activates the dead locks
To get in again either pull the drivers door handle once and you will hear it unlock and pull again to open the door. However for some reason it doesnt always work on mine like this and i have to unlock it with the key fob.
