Hi guys. I had a remus fitted to my car by regal 2 weeks ago, but can't get on with it. So I am going back to standard (exhaust wise) apart from a precat downpipe. As a result, the Remus is for Sale - I paid £870 for it from Roadrunner 2 weeks ago (invoice to proove). So would like as near to £700 as I can get. As you would expect the exhaust is immaculate, but is on the car until tomorrow, when I will put some pics on. If you think I am way out with the price - make me an offer anyway, the worst I can say is no... Thanks People

I am based near Hull, but would happily drive a bit to meet someone half way. If it helps

USB OBDII ELM 327
http://www.opel-club.gr/vbulletin/picture.php?albumid=419&pictureid=3658
Even if you don't repair your vehicle yourself, knowing the Diagnostic Trouble Code number before taking the vehicle in for repair is good knowledge to have. Once the vehicle is repaired, the Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) can be erased and the Check Engine light turned off using this scan tool.

In areas that require a smog test, an illuminated Check Engine light fails the emission test, even if the repaired vehicle might otherwise pass inspection. This OBD II Scan Tool turns off the Check Engine light.

Another highly useful application for the scan tool is purchasing used vehicles. Used vehicles can have all sorts of expensive mechanical or electrical problems. Remember, not all Diagnostic Trouble Codes illuminate the Check Engine light and a scan tool is the only way to obtain the information.

Hi all just a little advice needed really, are the air filters on an astra vxr easy to change and how often would anyone recomend them being changed (in miles), also does anyone know if you can or recomend changing the dump valve filter if there is such a thing, are both of these expensive and easy or hard to do,

many thanks for your time

Hi have recently fitted an boost gauge that has 2 wires coming from it the power and earth wire just wondered when connecting it up under the cigarette lighter do i only need to connect the power wire to the black female spade connecter and the earth to the brown wire and leave the red permanant live alone

15th March 2010, 02:33 PM
ok, cant rememeber what the wire colours on the car are but there is an earth and constant feed on the accessories socket (personally I earthed to the steering column) and there is an ignition feed on a small harness taped up about 6" forward of the accessories socket. You will need to use the ign feed and an earth only. Use a volt meter or test lamp to test which is which

Hi i own a mk5 1.4 sxi and wanted to know if anyone knows how to fit a vxr backbox on as ive just bought a rear bumper. The garage says its possible but will involve alot of cutting/welding,dont really like the sound of that lol.Ive heard that you can buy a fitment that connects the box and standard 1.4 pipe together?
Any help much appreciated thanks.

Never heard of that mate, your best bet would be to visit an exhaust specialist such as Powerflow who could make up a pipe to suit. ;)

ravin beef

PCD is 110, as for offset anything between 37 and 43 and you'll be fine (depending on dia of wheel)

I have just purchased the piano black ashtray cover and i will be attempting to fit this tonight.

I have a vaige idea on how to get the original cover off.

I am confused abit with the 12v connection - there seems to be two parts (chrome part and the plastic part with orange rim) I assume the chrome part slots into the plastic but i am unsure how as i dont want to snap anything.

Has anyone fitted this before? If so could you step me through it :) thanks who ever can help.

its just like you sed, place the socket in the ring but don't push it all the way in yet, now you need to feed the long part of the ring into the hole on the ashtray and seat that in there correctly. when in you should push the socket in which will sucure the whole lot.

LeeHardy

I cant figure how it goes in though mate and which way the connections should be at the bottom

it dont matter which way the connections are as there is wires that plug on only one way.

adamjackdrew

It's standard on all VXRs, mate. Which means, if the Insurance Company are any good - they should know this! You shouldn't need to state what alarm you have on the car.

However, if you have an upgraded alarm like a Cobra or Clifford or the like, then you should state what you have.

Hope this helps.

i have just removed my headlight to upgrade them to HID'S. i looked through loads of pages telling me that you have to remove the bumper to get the out. i had a look myself and found that if you turn your wheel outwards then lie down infront of your wheel you can reach up underneath your headlamp and get the 8mm bolt. it took me 10 mins to find it and if you jack up your car a bit you can get your head under there and see it. once i found it it took me another 10 mins to get both sides out. i think it’s allot easier than removing your bumper.

what do you think??

Can someone give me some help with this? How easy? or even a how to.

Thanks.

Its esay takes about 5 min

1 Using a flat screwdriver remove the No plate lights and disconect the wiring

2 remove the No plate and there are 2x torax to remove

3 Look in rear wheel arch and you will see 2 x torax remove them
(same on other side)

4 standing at the side of the car gently pull the top of the bumper and it will unclip from the car same on other side then side it off

Yeah its real pain to come off and go back on imo. I done mines gloss black, Used Etching primer (really sticks to what ever your painting) Then rubbed down with 2000 grit wet and dry, then 2 coats of grey primer and rubbed down very gently with 2000 grit again, after dry, 5 coats of black then rubbed down with 2000 again after its fully dry. Then 3 good coats of lacquer. And finally buffed up with some 3M Finishing compound to give the shine :) Very easy to, just time consuming. My rear bootstrip was a bugger to prep properly, so it doesn't flake. 8 months later and its still fine. Although my better half didn't appreciate me doing it in the kitchen :(

Next on my list is the roof rails, are going gloss black :)

lol true enough, am just jealous , not brave enough to try this myself.

Dave hasnt had any on his, mine had some last week and went away without leaving a mark on the lense, but my standard ones used to steam up as well sometimes, so no worse than normal :D made the cuts on the lights so any running water wouldnt get near a joint, and aralidted over joints and also used silica gel bags in the bottom of the headlight to absorb any moisture that may get it. It was long thought out process
in essence its easy to do as your just cutting plastic, but just time consuming and need a steady hand ;)

although i have to split mine again during the winter as one headlight has a mark on the inside of the lense where i didnt clean it properly prior to assembling them

Hi all

Can anyone help with how to do an oil change on an astra, also what oil is best to use to replace/top up with, if there are any photo guides this would be useful too.

Many thanks in advance Ash

br3ttwilson
16th July 2010, 05:13 PM
best idea would be to watch a video on youtube,, basically all oil changes are the same.. only differences are the locations of the oil filters and the type of tools required to release the sump plug..

Tools required are
axle stands
Jack
New oil filter
New oil. i use 5 30 semi sinthetic
The sump plug requires a Torx T45..
A new Sump O ring from Vauxhall. approx 25pence
An oil filter removal tool or in my case a screw driver and hammer;)
An oil catch container.. basically just big bowl for the oil to drain into..

on the astra the oil filter loaction is behind the drivers wheel, best to remove the driver wheel before you jack it up..

Take car for a quick drive to warm oil up.
jack up onto axle stands
Once its up on axle stands then undo the sump plug.. drain all the oil for approx 10 minutes.. whilst the oil is draining from sump, undo the oil filter making sure to catch remaining oil.. usually filters can hold anything upto 1litre of oil so be sure to have another catch container at the ready...

after aprox 10 minutes start the process of replacing new parts.. making sure to replace the oil Sump O ring.. attach new filter, hand tighten filter as over tightening will cause alot of hassle next time round...

remove axle stands

replenish with fresh oil roughly around 3.5 litres i put in to start with.. then i start the engine for a few minutes, switch off, check oil level and top up where necessary....

DICKO1

oil filter is on side of the engine behind drivers front wheel. another thing u need to do it take the oil filler cap off before removing sump plug so all the oil drains out.

I used to have to debadge and rebadge cars all the time at the body shop i used to work at and all we ever used is floss and tar remover.

Flos cuts right through an leaves minimal double sided tape or glue and never leaves a scratch or any other marks.

the driver 1 will mate but the passenger 1 can only fit a few mm from the edge of the wing if you fit the driver 1 first you might not be able to get the passenger 1 the same distance away from the wing

i was told to trim the sping bit and it still click's into the surround i tryed but couldnt get it where i wanted to on the wing so i just snaped it off you have more room to get it where you want it mate i poped i tiny bit glue on to hold it into place

i am pritty sure the cd30 is not compatiable with a amp and sub,,

You will need a set of these to remove the old cd30
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Radio-Removal-Keys-Pair-Double-DIN-PC5-110-/250516708070?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GP S_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item3a53f59ae6

Then once thats remove you will need a few other things depending on what double din unit your going for.. for example if you were to get a JVC aftermarket DDin unit you will need the required JVC adapters so that the steering wheel functions still work..

Its really easy to do.. just need to make sure you have the right parts..

Are they bolted in from the inside of the door card and behind the panel on the dash? If not i would try prying them off maybe, but whilst being very careful incase im completely wrong. Check they are not somehow bolted on for now and hopefully by the time you have done it someone more knowledgable may have written back.

as far as i no you dont need to divorce the screen from the cd30 if your changing to an aftermarket unit. its only if your changing say for instance a piano black cd30 for a silver cd30

Correct, some headunits require an adapter to keep the steering controls active but are usually plug and play, but if your switching to another vauxhall OE headunit then it will need to be paired with your screen.

there was an option in the sat nav on mine, think it was under the settings menu and then i think the sub menu was called alerts.

I'll have a proper look later when i can but i'm sure it was just in the settings menu.

To get the bit above the glove box (from memory)
Take up the cover underneath the handbrake.
two torx screws then remove the gear surround etc
a couple more torx and the heater dials come out,
Remove headunit
main centre dash will come out
Then the trim bit will pop off.

The trim on the door is heat welded on so wont come off unless you take the doorcard off and carefully drill the plastic out.

Yes I did just that and they were able to order me one. Thanks. Sometimes the internet leads you in the wrong direction. The obvious 'old' way of picking up the phone was the best choice I realise now! I now have the net and am waiting to fit it.

does the dash trim just pop off them mate or is it handbrake cowel then radio etc etc

Georgy
5th August 2010, 05:12 PM
you have to start with the cover under the handbrake and remove the screws and just work up.
The trim above the grovebox has a hole in that fits over a piece in the dash to stop it coming out without removing everything else.

I just took a pic of a piece of trim i had here, you can see the hole at the end that fits behind the centre console.

Just got some Team Heko wind deflectors and they do all of the above. 2 of my mates have VXR's and they dont have the problem even with mine fitted? I was wondering whether some cars are prone to a few problems and need a bit of tweaking.

Just seems odd they work on my friends but not mine and visa versa?

Cheers guys.

I may take mine off and sell them. if other people dont mind these things, they are great as they look bloody cool. But if not i dont see the point.

Do you have the metal brackets in place?

Look good and you can drive with the window down a couple inches whilst its raining, fresh air without getting wet.

Funny that mine dont obscure my vision, dont squeek or catch, have you got the clips fitted correctly pushed in and at the correct points ?

Ollie B
20th August 2010, 11:58 PM
try taking the bit by the pillar and pulling it out a bit so it sort of clicks into place. then insert 2 clips on each side with the sharp metal bit of the clip sticking out into the side of the road.all these problems are due to the fact that they havn't been fitted correctly ;) hope that helps

Got some from ebay.

So you guys reckon just to break off the side repeator clip and hot glue it to the surround, then stick the surround to the car? So do your repeators now sit about 5-10mm more forward than normal?

VXRT
21st August 2010, 02:10 PM
No its not been crashed. Lol. Its Keano's old car from off here. Its fine, Im going to have a look why mine does it later. If not ill sell them as i cant be doing with all that noise for the sake of a deflector. As they work on most other peoples cars i dont mind passing them on.

Pics of where someone elses clips have gone would be great also.

Cheers.

VXRT
22nd August 2010, 01:28 AM
If anyone is having the same problem as me theres a solution.

3 Clips per side so you will need a few more than provided. One in line with the Team Heko writing. One just before the deflector curve and one in the centre. Also stops the wind whistle iv heard quite a few people have at high speeds with the windows up.

The seller i bought mine from also said this has been the case numerous time and now it has come to light more and more will be supplying them with 6 Clips rather than 4.

miniman
22nd August 2010, 01:37 AM
Well mine came with 6 clips, their not Team Heko though, an e-bay version at 20 odd quid, but are ok noise/wind wise.

I have team heko ones and had the same problem with wind noise.I had 2 clips in each one.I removed the clip towards the front of the car and left the back clip in and its helped with the wind noise.

Also found when you put the window back up flick the switch again and the window goes up a little bit more which should help

Just undo the 3 srews that hold the grill to the slam panel, then gently pull away a little, and then just pull out the bumper

If you look behind the grill the badge will just push out with a bit of gijjery pokery...

VXRT
6th September 2010, 04:06 AM
Sounds like crap mate. Ss long as its fitted properly you will hear it with or without the recirc connected. The boost control solenoid controls release and flutter so blocking it or dissconnecting it wont do the turbo any good as just using a negative vaccum to control boost is not enough in a modern day engine. If it not making a noise its either not fitted right or its broken and the guy that sold it has had you over it think.

There's been a lot of threads saying similar things from my understanding
because you add another DV, the 2 work in unison and you don't get the rush of air
releasing threw one that you are after.
So many people on here have said IMO the same thing.
