got the latest brochure but no performance figures in it,
the 2.0 turbo 4x4 looks tempting [producing around 220 ps,is this a new engine???
very impressed seems the most advanced vauxhall-opel by a mile
the AFL is amazing,
well done vauxhall8)

dont think it will be a completely new engine

more like the original one tweaked

The VXR is rumoured to be using the same engine as the veccy, just tweaked to about 310, which is what most Veccy VXR engines with a remap anyway (give or take a few bhp)

It is a brand new engine, Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) technology.
This is the spec:

The insignia engine is tuned to 220 bhp but tuners in the states, where they have had this engine a couple of years, are easily able to produce 310 on a remap.

The figures in the press are 310-330 bhp.
To get there reliably means there would have to be some fairly major intake upgrades.

It will be an upgrade from the Vectra VXR - the current engine is on its remap only limit for 300+ - in the Insignia it has to push a 4 wheel drive system and warrant drilled disks and Brembo 4 pots and be punter proof standard to do that 8)

The problem for the Vectra VXR engine is not the engine itself (Saab has made 400ps
prototypes with it). It's the turbo (limits to 310-315ps) and the gearbox (rated safe up to 42Nm of torque).A 350ish engine would require a new turbo, maybe some minor cooling
work just to be on the safe side(!) and an uprated gearbox!A 2,8 lit turbo engine rated at
350ps would surely produce torque readings around 55Nm (and with the 4wd system it's gonna be all usable power)

That will be the same block, crank and pistons as currently used with a different head and electronics on it. It costs too much to develop new engines so they are almost always a modification to a theme. The current 2.0 VXR lump is very similar to the old 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 8v engines up to the head gasket if you look at it closely.

Still a great thing though 260 bhp out of a standard 2.0 engine

Just that the SIDI block is 319 Alumininium, not cast iron ;)
