Please could I have your thoughts on this car ?. They mye take my 06 Astra VXR as a straight swap. It is claimed to be running 450bhp
with mods.

Doesnt list any mods on the advert. Car looks stock and actually quite plain. This seems to be reflected in the price. I doubt that 450 figure very much...

Thats what i thought!. Apparently has an exhaust system of some sort and is ****ing loud!. They are selling it for same as they paid for it, the want to get rid of it, a chap i work with, his mrs works there, she can even bring it home for me to test drive. But really not sure.

The car has a Wortec performance pac. Remap, headers, exhaust, sport cats, CAI, MAF pipe, 85mm MAF. Power is expected to be 430 not 450. Not a bad buy!!

PS

Pack price is 3500 ish.

All depends on your priorities. Astra is very manic in comparison. It is a very quick car, but, can be quite tiresom and tedious day to day as it is always chomping at the bit. The 'Ro is a very different proposition, it is like a real heavy weight boxer. Not the fittest and carrying a lot of weight, but can hold its own in a relaxed manner and deliver a knockout blow when asked. It is also more practical, comfortable and unique.

I love driving the Astra, but, I always like to give it back after a couple of days and go back in the 'Ro. Maybe I am getting old!!!

There again 630bhp and no T/C, maybe classed as a little OTT!! ;)

Caspy, how did you find otu it had the 3500 wortec on it ?.
FLux is quoting me an extra 712 on top of the 400 ive paid for the vxr!.
and be ovewr a grand next year!.

How quick is a 430bhp monaro ?, 0-60, 0-100 e.t.c, i know very little about the monaro

I know what most mods cars have got. ;) 0-60 realisticly 5 secs, 0-100 circa 12. They are a very quick car but do suffer with trying to put the power down off a standing start which affects the 0-60 and 100 times. In gear ver different and the torque means whatever gear you choose it delivers!

The pac was only fitted a cpl of months back. To be fair, at that price its a bargain.

I must admit im very intereseted!, specially for a striaght swap. Fiancee not agreeing :x , she thinks its too old :? !. And looks like an old mans car compared to my vxr  .
The insurance is putting me off at over a grand next year (due to the wortec pack) which i still havnt seen proof its got. Also if it goes bang ive no warranty!, at least my vxr is a known quantity. The bloke who traded it in is gutted , in his 40's and his mrs said he had to get rid as its too loud for the kids e.t.c

re the insurance, have you tried someone like Adrian Flux who specialise in modded cars.

Yes thats who im with, paid 400 on the vxr in april 07, they want an extra 712 to insure the monaro until april next year!. Then will be looking at a grand minimum i think.

TBH I wouldnt swap for a non vxr silver ro on an 04 plate...

If you are going to get a ro you need to ensure it is something special (i.e not subtle). You need the bonnet vents, the front fogs and trim, the twin exhausts e.t.c. otherwise every time you see another ro you will wish you had all that... plus, it is silver, far too subtle...

Try A-Plan insurance, they advertise on the Monaro forum, are fully aware of the reality of the mods and appear very very competitive. As far as warranty goes, it would be close to the end of manufacturer warranty, but, it will get 12 months NetQ which is regardless of mods and will even cover clutch!! It is a bargain.

If you wanna get some more thoughts try www.hsv.org.uk. If you wanted proof on the tune it could quite easily be obtained. Go see 'em and take it for a test drive.
