Firstly i suspect the MAF sensor getting dodgy readings and closing the turbo or excessively carboned iridium spark plugs causing an issue. Currently own a mk4 astra gsi turbo, baught the car about a month ago on a 03 plate with only 46k miles, and got it on the road about a week and loving every minute of driving it!

Have a few more idea's of doing things to it but will wait and see as im hoping to be offshore in the next few months and was thinking of rebuilding the engine and getting bigger turbo etc.

When I drive along I can hear like a whirling sound coming from the front of the car, seems to change tone when I accelerate and pull off the accelerator.

It has 49500miles on the clock and it puts a smie on my face everyday, but I have been hearing a grinding noise when in 1st gear. All the other gears are fine and I have not noticed a change in performance.
My hart sank when they told me that I needed a new gearbox and it is going to cost around £2500... Looking into getting a reconditioned box as the Waranty ran out last year. And I'm gonna get 4 new tyres before I go.

At the minute I'm on Yokohama prada spec 2's which I love. But there pretty terrible in the wet. if I put 4 new pradas on and it ends up raining while I'm there I'm gonna have a pretty crap experiance of the ring.

What would you lot suggest? Take a risk or go for a 50/50 tyre. Baring in mind my Astra is gonna be 420+bhp in a couple of weeks. Obviously we will not want to miss any of Dougies planned entertainment (highland jig, free food and drinks etc) but Can some of the seasoned veterans suggest a good bar/restaraunt for a few hours out ? Maybe even plan a group outing ?
