Very true. It's all money that could do without spending. Head gasket set, stretch bolts, water pump, timing kit around £200-£250
With turbo and gasket set £440
    Ouch...

Just to let you all know I've taken the turbo off thisafternoon and there is a lot of play in the outlet turbine. I'm hoping this is my cause.

It does sound like your turbo, but the tool to do stem seals is a 'sealey cylinder head service kit' although there are others out there. Basically you hook an air compressor into spark plug hole to pressurise the cylinder, this holds valves closed while you remove springs, seals ect. You obviously need to remove cams and other misc parts.

When I bought car few week ago the garage said it had a top end rebuild previous but we had no proof. I can see its had a new manifold gasket, timing belt, air filter, manifold studs so I assume he's correct and if so they would have done the stem seals at same time as they would have to of bought a head set and comes with them.
Anyway I'm off to the dealer tomorrow to buy a brand new turbo. ;-)
