Default Engine management light when I put my foot down

Last night I decided to take out the standard air filter out of my Corsa 'burg and have a blast up and down a indoor car park with no filter on whatsoever to see what it sounded like (not the brightest idea, I know) but when I put it back on, I turned the ignition on and the revs built up as they do and then cut out on its own. It did this twice and then on the third time I had to rev it to keep it running. Now, when I'm driving and put my foot down the engine management light comes on and the car feels really sluggish, almost like the turbo isn't boosting. I had to use it to get to and from college today and had the same problems today. I do plan on plugging it into a diagnostics machine to get the error code but that may take a few days.
Can anyone offer any advice on what is possibly going wrong?

Besides making your mixture very lean - you should never do this.....

Putting the filter back wouldnt of caused this, you must of either put back incorrectly or not fitted correctly and you have have a massive air leak ??

    Check fitment !

    Oh my god.

Dirt in the MAF, or just disconnect your battery for 30ish mins and see if it's cleared.

It sounded okay to be fair, the engine sounded deeper and made a whooshing sound when I come of the throttle
