Default Astra VXR Turbo Recirc Valve issue.

Hi all, i have had my Astra VXR for almost 2 years and i have recently had a few problems. I have had a milltek turboback decat fitted and is now puffing blue smoke after setting off from lights, so i have bought a oil restrictor bolt in the hope that it will sort that problem out. Secondly...i put a AEM cone filter with a cdti conversion from courtenay sport. I noticed the turbochatter is really loud so i started to ring round and i realised that the recirc valve on the turbo looked weird. It had no vac pipe or anything coming off it and it was just a black circular plastic piece. I am now thinking that the previous owner must have blanked this off for a aftermarket d/v and then removed it before selling and leaving the recirc blanked off :/ does this sound about right? I was told there should be a vac pipe coming off the recirc. I have a forge recirc on the way and fitting next couple of days. Can anyone confirm that what i have explained sounds right? Thankyou

if theres no pipe or an outlet coming off the recirc valve then it does sound like its been blanked off

Thankyou for your reply, do people recommend running a collins twin piston with a forge recirc? I want the dump sound but ive heard that the recircs are the safest for the engine, theres so many contrasting opinions lol

most people say that dump valves cause problems with engine management etc. if your running a cone with direct route you will still get the dump noise. i have the standard recirc valve fitted and when i was using the ramair cone you could defo hear the dump noise.

Did you also have the 'turkey' noise or turbo chatter? Or is that a symptom of having my recirc blanked off? I have heard its the sound of the blades in the turbo being forced in the opposite direction by the air pressure having nowhere to go :/ i really dont like the chatter sound but i like the sound of a dv

Correct - you need to either fit an OEM recir valve asap or an upmarket version like Forge

No performance gain ( unless you start fiddling with springs and then in the past engines have been taken out literally by over boosting) , just that they arent effect by heat issues so boost is always stable

Got to be much better than having no recirc at all, still unsure as to why somebody would blank it off completely leaving nowhere for the leftover air to go :O

Think you 'hit nail on head' when you thought it might of had a DV fitted previously, thats teh only sensible assumption
