Default Looking to buy a Insignia VXR.

    Morning folks,

I'm looking at buying a VXR and heading over to Vauxhall ownership.

Are they all he same power ?
If not how can i tell the difference ?
    Anything physically different ?
Is it down to engine code ?

Are there any stickers to look out for inside door etc to confirm power ?

Bar the usual Service History, brakes, tyres etc.

    What about.

    Timing Chains ?
How common is the timing chain issues on the Insignia ?
Or is it hit or miss dependant on car ?
Any recommendations or timeframes for changing tensioners etc at all ?

Cooling system ? Are the prone to overheating ? Water pump ? Thermostat ?

Gearboxes/Diff/clutch life on mapped cars ?
    Crunching into gear ?

Do they have flapper/bypass valves in exhaust ? Are these prone to sticking /seizing ?

    Suspension issues ?

Rust ? Do they suffer badly ?
As I've seen a few Astra VXRs with rusty rear 1/4's where the bumper meets.

Any rare specs ? Colours ?

Any electrical gremlins I should know about ?

    Fire away folks.
The more information I'm armed with the better.

you seem to know stuff already by the read of some of the things your asking about ? so spend some time searching , all the common faults are well documented on here in the insignia section , one thing I will say is that the phrase " full VX service history " means ***** all on the siggy vxr , any car you are interested in , you need to see detailed service /warranty/ repair work for that car , good luck

They all have the same power. All models up to 2011 will or have had timing chain problems. Water pump should be changed when timing chains and tensioners are being done regardless. Some people have had clutch issues some havn't. The diff will have problems at some point guaranteed. No rust issues. I have a 59 2010 that pretty much perfect bodywise and underneath. Exhaust is a Remus which gives a nice burble all the time.

    Clutch issues ?
Is this with remapped cars ?
Or just a common trait ?

    Diff problems ?
Is this due to the diff oil being overlooked on service intervals ?
Or is the tranny just a weak spot on them ?

Is it a Haldex AWD system ?
Any issues due to lack of oil change in the Haldex unit ?

Have you mapped your motor as well as Remus ?

The clutch issue is a common trait. Some people have done upgrades to the engines and touching 400hp mark without issue. Some have had weak clutches on standard setup. Luck of the draw.
The awd is Haldex and it has various weak points. Some had the wrong size seal inside causing a cross contamination of oils within the unit. Others have bad/weak pumps that seem to fail a lot. Vauxhall say there is no set service interval for the Haldex but every 2 years should be advised.
The Remus is standard kit on the Insignia. I have secondary decat and mapped and it is the way the car should have been from the factory.

    Ah ok.
What does it take to hit close to 400bhp ?
Lots of breathing mods and money I guess.
Wrong seals inside should be a recall.
I guess there is no way to know unless you spot it when draining old oil.
What the most common aftermarket exhaust ? Or I guess is personal choice.

What's the norm powerwise for a stage 1 map, filter and decat system ?

They are great cars to drive and I think look great as well. But if I knew back then what I know now, I would have given my car a huge swerve.
Be very careful, it would seem that the only reason people sell these cars is because of a big problem and they want to off load it quick.

I guess the money they are going for there are a lot of fast German barges going about too.
    So I've noticed lately too.
