Not really legal. So you run the risk of being pulled.

Some jurisdictions may be more lenient. But the fact remains all plates have to be made out of a retro reflective material, ie the standard numberplate retro reflective plastic. With no borders and all in standard font.

Saw a thread on a forum once where the guy was confused as to what is allowed and what's not. So he emailed his local police station and posted the reply, and it pretty much stated the above. You'll probably get away with it 99% of the time. But if a copper really wanted to book you for it he could. So run at your own risk.

strange that, The numberplate has a retro reflective plastic, copper who pulled me last time was trying too hard to find something ( think he was having a bad night ) started off with " what are you doing out this late, has your car got a validate mot " which they I proceeded to sit on the wall and eat my kebab whilst he checked my tyre tread, plates etc then say your all ok, so not sure on that part. Surely if the above is the correct the people who sell numberplate with the bsau mark are in fact breaking the law?

Yes they pretty much are mate. The word of sellers who claim they conform is all nonsense.

Gov.uk rules etc are very misleading. It's a massive grey area but basically anything other than oe style plates places you at potential risk of being done. I got pulled for mine and tbh rather than risk the 100 quid fine I'd certainly get next time I've just kept them oe. Cba to go through the grief again.

That there is very he said she said kinda thing, It's a bit of a tricky one as if one copper is saying its ok and the other isn't those are the people enforcing the law of the land so if they are 100% sure and the website isn't 100% correct we have no chance in hell! look

Exactly why I just don't bother. Now I've been ordered to change it once if it happens again it's bye bye 100 quid.
