If they will do anything, it will be based on the HFV6, most probably the LGW twin turbo 3.0V6, which is producing 400 bhp in the Cadillac CT6 out of the box. The Insignia GS is designed to accomodate that engine, so there should be potential to extract more from the car if they decide on that configuration - but I wouldn't hold my breath for a cross-branded Lotus/Opel Insignia.

Correct, but the LGW is the only forced induction unit after they discontinued the 3rd gen LF series and I don't think we'll see a high-volume naturally aspirated V6 in the Insignia. So my money is on the LGW, if they actually produce the thing. But with the way the Cadillac CT6 (which is bigger and heavier) I will be more than happy with that engine. Should be good for a 0-62,5 of around 4,5

Being optimistic, if the HSV guys and gals could engineer it, then the steering wheel would be on the correct side for a low volume import to the UK.
There is a precedent for this sort of thing.
Where is Stu Harris when you need him ??

I now have it on fairly good authority that the next Insignia VXR/OPC will not be any kind of V6 or V8.
But instead, a four cylinder turbo with somewhere around 340hp+ and the torque vectoring AWD system.
(This was suggested before as being a possibility: confirmed now).

Of course, this doesn't prevent our Australian friends at HSV from doing something "special" somewhere along the way.

Will it even be "OPC or VXR" - that would be my question

Yes, it will have a VXR / OPC badge with the usual ... fairly aggressive styling, good kit as standard, big wheel option, etc.
Objective being to undercut some Audi sales.

Launch date could be Geneva 2018, or possibly a little sooner.
