    Default How to change injectors?!

    Hi, going stage 2 soon and need bigger injectors ive found a set in good nick, my mapper wont fit them enless they are new £££££££££££££

    any videos or images to help me?

    how do you change them is it a job i can complete in a car park just before the car goes in? just trying to save the pennies

    all help appriciated!

    If the person that knows what they're doing refuses to fit them then I'd say spend the extra money. Trying to do it cheap is where things go wrong.

    Did he/she give a reason why they had to be brand new? Just interested...

    Thing with injectors in the Corsa D (and probably all recent Vauxhalls) is that each one has different characteristics which change over time.

    No two injectors are identical so when they are new, they are tested and have a code printed on the side of them. This code gets put into tech2 after replacement and from that code, the ECU knows exactly what the characteristics are, so it can compensate for them. I remember doing some work for a garage in Leeds and they replaced the injectors on a 1.3 Corsa diesel, it started without coding after 10 secs cranking but made loads of smoke and the engine light was on. Once the injectors were coded it ran much better and the engine lamp went out.

    Once the ECU knows where it's starting from, it can compensate for changing characteristics over time.

    Now the problem with used injectors is that there's no way of knowing the characteristics of them without access to specialist testing gear - remember the injectors don't work the same as when they were new so the code on the side will no longer be valid but without any other information will have to be used because it's better than nothing. In a standard car this would probably be good enough, it might run poorly for 50/100 miles etc but after that the ECU will have got used to them and compensated. BUT - what you're asking this guy to do is tune an engine that will likely be running poorly. I can understand why he is reluctant.

    SMD conversions, cruise control, speed dependent locking/anti-hijack, check control programming, diagnostics, software updates - based in West Yorkshire
    Radios and displays decoded/divorced without the code
    Genuine Vetronix Tech2 with SPS and ******** used - no Chinese clone stuff here
