    By the weakness of the handbrake. Caliper pistons and slide pins should be inspected. They're more likely than stretched handbrake cables.

    This is the 24hour update

    All is fine with the car no new symptoms to complain about as of yet but there is still time left in the day to find something
    07 Arden blue VXR(H). 3” scorpion turbo back, pipercross cone filter, front mounted intercooler. Running stage 2 map dyno tested at 290bhp 340 lb torque.
    Black rear diffuser, black boot trim, black tinted windows. Piano black console and steering wheel trims. Carbon fibre dash trims.

    As vexer said check calipers , where cable joins caliper it pulls the lever that shaft corrodes also pitting on cylinder/rust. The golf’s were terrible for calipers seizing up.
    Just take rear wheels off and remove cable from caliper and see how freely it moves.
    Also crap/rust by pads remove pads clean the edges a bit off copper lube on the back and clean carrier so they can move freely.
