Default Pre-cat pipe, Second Cat - also DAB removal?

hello all, im now the proud owner of a insignia VXR, its my 3rd car since passing my test 1.5 years ago. my misses bought one on saturday, i instantly fell in love with it and bought one on sunday, then her mum bought one on monday!!!

so me and the misses both have insignia VXR's, love them to bits.

my question is, i want a bit of a deeper sound and some popping ect from my exhaust, the pre cat pipe is a bit out of my budget right now, and i know this is the one to change to get best popping sound, however the second cat pipe is a decent ammount cheaper, with no sensors, im wondering how much changing the second one will change the sound of the exhaust and will it make it pop?

also, is it possible at all to modify the cat? like cut the pipe open, hollow it out and weld it back up? i know people used to do this with DPF's and wondering if possible to do same thing with a cat for some budget MOD's?

    any advise is much appriciated.

another thing i would like to do is take the dab out of my VXR and install to the misses, would anyone know how i go arround this? many thanks

Sub £300 gets the turbo downpipe decat but generally causes a fault code unless the 2nd sensor is moved.
Coring the oem cat is possible but doesn't flow terribly well and you still get the fault code.
Not sure exactly how the underneath cat removal alters the sound on a VXR but my old saab 2.8 got a bit throatier and that way no fault code.
Dab... I suspect you'd need to mate it to the car and update the firmware in the head unit... Can't see it being a DiY job

Rhe second cat probably won’t give you as much popping and burbling as the precat will still take any additional fuel without igniting it (which is also why the car pops much better when it is cold as the cat isn’t up to temperature yet).

The headunit can’t easily be swapped as it is coded to the specific car and needs to be recoded - which I believe you need a GM tech 2 to do - and specialist knowledge. There are some threads on it on the insignia enthusiast forum and a few boffins who know how it is done,

Hi, the secondary delete does make the car sound louder with added pops and crackles. I have the Scorpion and find it perfect, especially if you have had a long drive and the exhaust is hot, I get really loud pops. A primary decat is available from Klasen and is the same one supplied by the likes of Courtenay, Regal and Thorney, but is cheaper than all 3 of them.

Well the primary cat is a bit out of my price range at moment I think as I'd need a map as Well to clear the codes.

I think I'm going to go with the second cat delete, I just want a bit of a deeper sound.

Is it a noticeable difference? And is it a pop that happens regular or is it just a now and then pop?

    Thanks all for info

It's not so much deeper, more louder. If you've been driving for a bit and the engine and exhaust are really hot, it pops a crackles loads. Accelerate hard and let off the gas and it pops nicely. First start of the day and it's really loud. There has been times that it sounded like a shotgun going off in my street when I changed from 1st to 2nd.

Would it not normally do this? Because mine already has some pops and crackles when warm and through the gear changes, however the misses one doesn't, I'm just wondering if I already have this pipe fitted 🤔

Yes it does it normally anyway, but does it a lot more with the decat.
