    Default Top gear slip???

Morning all, yesterday in a 40mile trip to Sheffield along the M1 I was tootling along at 70 in cruise...pit my foot down to overtake a middle laner and the revs increased but the car barely did. Then the revs dropped to what they should be and the car accelerated at it should have initially. No dramas after that but it did it twice on that run...perhaps once before last week but I passed that off. Any ideas please? Assuming clutch related but low miles for clutch I would say...anything else cause that? Car done 22k...65 plate VXR.
    Cheer all.

    Hi,

Were you in 6th ? Assuming yes because of the title, what was the revs when you put your foot down ? around 2000-2500 ?
If you were in max torque range, I am afraid it might be clutch related...
    Was weather particularly humid ?

Yes, it was around that Rev range...went to about 3.5/4K before dropping. Was a cold afternoon about 2’c. Seems pretty crap if clutch related at such low miles so a case with VX is warranted I guess.

Could be a knackered seal that is letting fluid onto your clutch/flywheel causing it to slip.

Mine did the same at 22k but after a trip to the dealer for another job it stopped slipping... They claim they didn't do anything but its certainly improved

Bizarre...driven it a fair bit today and hasn’t done it. Can’t weigh it up.

The clutch is known to be quite weak, if the car is mapped it will wear out relatively quickly and you could see slip, especially under hogh torque loads. It doesn’t sound unlikely that it has been cooked - but there might be other reasons for it slipping.

I have vx involved as I think 2nd gear can be a bit “iffy” for precise selection. Is there an upgrade clutch option out there? Even if it means I pay some towards.
