Yeah, the automotive world just hasn’t been the same since the Metro GT was made obsolete, haha!

I dunno, I think they're reaching the limit with what people look for in a small performance car.
If you consider the (frankly) ridiculous costs too, £40k for that A45 mentioned earlier, I dont think it's too long before people say "Nah, you're taking the p*ss now" and the bubble will burst for this market.

Yep. So true. You can't call them hot hatches past 35-40k. They become super hatches and outside the affordability of the masses

Escort Cosworth was more costly in real terms when it was new than what you could claim is the equivalent type of car today, in 1992 a £21k car would be £42k today according to the bank of england inflation calculator.

All you've got now different to before is that the RS/RS3/A45/Golf R are taking up the market which used to be Evo/Subaru land

I can see the appeal of what they are calling the Hyper Hatchbacks, plenty of grunt that would outpace everything other than super cars and top range performance cars (M3, AMG etc) however look at the reviews they get when up against less powerful Hot hatches and it’s clear to see they are very boring in comparison; yes going fast in a straight line is great and 4wd allows you to put all that power to the Road makes for brilliant stats but don’t know about everyone else I love wrestling my VXR on a bumpy B road every now and then, can safely say my car has character which I haven’t had in a long time..

This little snippet from EVO explains the theory.. although no mention of the J VXR?

And couple that with typical Germany reliability. They are extremely expensive though. But everyone just pcps cars now anyway.

Didn't clarkson mention once he'd been quoted something like 22k to insure a cosworth back when he was younger? Lol
