    Default Possible P4??😩

    Advice Please!!😩😩

Around Christmas time last year I started my car and it was shaking. Within 10 seconds engine management light was on and started misfiring, smell of fuel in the oil and cylinder 4/spark plug wet with oil. Got told it was a Piston so sat off the road for 3 months.

Got it booked in last week for compression test and they told me all compressions were fine, but P4 was higher than the rest. In the end up they said it was a coil pack so replaced that then got the car back. To which they then said the oil valve stem seals were on their way out as there was blue smoke out the back of the exhaust and that the oil was slightly burnt and thin. So changed the oil hoping it would solve the issue of it being too thin but now the smell of fuel is back mixing with the oil. Cylinder 4 still slightly wet with oil, and still burning oil after idling for a few seconds and a slight blip of the throttle, white/slightly blue smoke out of exhaust.

    Any ideas??😩

    Thanks!!

    Ryan.

    1, is the car mapped
2, if so were uprated injectors fitted before mapping?

I think if P4 has gone the compression test would have come back with a significant drop and not a rise.

It's possible then. But impossible to say without checking it.

Even mapped "safe" it's not guarentee'd. P4 is caused when the car is mapped on the factory injectors which are insufficient to flow the fuel necessary at 5500k and above. This causes the deterioration to p4.

I'd be very surprised if this was a p4 issue. The 'gold standard' test for this is low compression figures.
It sounds like cylinder 4 is overfuelling or significant oil is getting past the stem seals on that cylinder. Other things to check are head gasket and injectors. If the oil looks like mayo on the filler cap or coolant looks contaminated, gasket is likely.
Personally, either upgrade the injectors or put a standard vx map back on it. Piston 4 is generally only a problem on mapped cars where it's been done on the cheap!

Or non specialist mappers who haven't the wealth of Knowledge about the issue.

Have people saying it’s p4 so starting to worry , coolant looks fine (still pink) and filler cap seems okay too (clear and smells of petrol), so should be able to rule out head gasket, other people saying it’s stem seals but it’s weird that only seals gone on one cylinder, how do I check injectors? Surely it’s not symptoms of an injector stuck open??

Doesn’t sound like p4 to me I’ve had experience with it lol would run like a bag of nails when it was cold and there would be loss of power how many miles has it done ??

P4 issues happen to standard car's not just car's that have been mapped.
