Nice one. Might be a quick 1 day job for the bloke. How much are the diff bearing kits?

The gearbox doesn't need to be taken out to do the main bearings either.
To be honest, I wouldn't waste your time / money on replacing the diff bearings. I've never really heard of these going. If it is your box, it will be the usual suspect bearings. If that's the case, I'd suggest making the effort to go and visit a specialist. Either WG, Halifax Gearboxes or AS Autocare. These guys are the only 3 you'll really hear about on these forums that have any true experience dealing with the infamous M32.

Before you depress yourself even more, just jack up the wheel and turn it. If you put your hand on the shock absorber when turning and you can feel a roughness, then it’s a wheel bearing. It’s a nice quick and easy test.

AS autocare are a complete waste of time, I called into them when I thought I had a noisy gearbox bearing and the guy on the reception desks advise was to sell the car even though I'd only just bought it. Turned out to be the nsf wheel bearing anyway.

Nice one mate. Totally forgot about those guys. Definately better than driving down to London for WG

Has anyone heard of Austrin Gearbox Specialists in Newcastle. These guys have said they've done lots of M32 gearboxes but i've never heard them mentioned.

Not yet. It's been ****** weather. No way to do it without getting soaked. Should I be hearing some kind of noise like grinding to go with the rough feeling on the shock?

Hitting the ejaculate button like Knight Rider usually get rid of them.

@OP; if you'veno time to jack off, after a spin, feel each alloy up front. Dry bearing may create enough friction to generate a noticeable accumulation in heat on a single side
