Default Vauxhall gave me ATF instead of the usual gearbox oil 93165694

[reposting, as previous post went borken ]

    Helloes!

I wonder why instead of the here-discussed 93165694 GM manual transmission fluid, the dealership is selling me one for the automatic transmission, P/N 93165414 that comes up when they enter my 2014 GTC VXR's reg plate into their system. 93165414 has written on the label that it's an ATF, power steering, and hydraulic tipper.
I've doublechecked, they were sure this is now the correct gearbox fluid for my car.

It is red in colour, and the one I drained looked more brownish with a red tint only when looking at the trickle (don't think that one has ever been changed). I haven't started the car yet, being cautious and asking my fellow mechs

Hope you could give insights! So far I've read that ATF is put into modern gearboxes, maybe it's Vauxhall's call to resolve clunky gear engages, whining diff on full lock, and all other small niggly noises occasionally popping up while in 3rd or 4th.

    Cheers!

i would double check with another vauxhall dealer, i cant remember if thats the right one of not. the 93165414 is Dexron 6 or though it doesn't say on the side it is also a Transmission Fluid

most gear box oils look like thick chip pan oil. DO NOT USE ATF in your gearbox... its an hydraulic fluid and wont do you or the gearbox any favours.
Get a refund and go to another garage.... whoever sold you the ATF is clueless and doesnt know what their doing.

Thank you all, I followed your advice and called up few dealers.

Turned out my original dealership had given me the wrong fluid, and ATF is something definitely not to be put in a manual VXR!

Lesson learned: when you ask for a gearbox oil, always explicitly state it is for manual transmission, as it might not flag up when they look up by your reg number! And do not assume anything (assumption is a mother of all c*ckups!)

Bought 3 litres (at a lovely consolation discount), will drain the ATF that's in there now, flush 1 litre through, drain it (won't spin the gearbox), then fill up with 2l for good.

    Cheers!
