Default Question about mapping session today

    Hi guys,

I’m off to rnd motorsport today to have the car mapped, they mentioned over email that my cdti airbox will cause a significant restriction compared with using a cone filter.

I have an itg foam cone as well but removed this in favour of the cdti simply because it is so loud and sounds a bit chavtastical in my opinion (after all I am 34)

So my question is, what do others think about this, are we talking 1-2 bhp restriction or something that i would notice? obviously on a generic/standard map it’s not anything you would notice but if the car has a bespoke map with a cone fitted is there a more significant gain?

I’ve only had generic files loaded onto a vxr before so not sure what to think here.

    Cheers

A custom bespoke map from the likes of courts or rabbid will always be better than a generic map, I have a aem dry cone and do not find it loud or chavvy , 57 myself doubt you will lose to much with the cdti if you fit a high flow panel filter to it but I would just fit a cone myself, without a good exhaust you will be limited by any map generic or custom.

Rabbid was finding a significant increase with the cone filter at the time I last had a map tweak.

Well I had it mapped with the cone on today, pretty poor result in terms of figures...269bhp 318lbft.
This was with a miltek cat back + precat pipe and airtec fmic inc map pipe and top hat and crossover delete.

They said that the exhaust was limiting power but I’m sure it’s more than that, because the first unmapped run only saw about 225bhp.

Curiously a while back I removed the vac line to the actuator and it only hit 16psi max.
With the map it only sees 14-16 psi max (holds 14 in third, 16 in 5/6th) which I’m sure is low.

Besides the above it actually feels very quick.

Why did you remove the line?

Because my boost guage was reading 9psi but I also had a vacuum leak from the brake servo (which has since been replaced)
I wanted to see that the cause was the vacuum leak and not that the turbo could only generate that pressure.
