Default Any ideas on a diagnostic?

Recently I was driving home from the local shops, first gear was normal, slightly fast I have to say, changed to second gear and got zero power response to the wheels and the engine simply revved, same for all gears thereafter.

The next day I started the car and engaged fifth to test if I had a clutch issue, but the car moved and did so in all gears, however a sloshing/fluid emptying sound could be heard in first gear. It left a fluid discharge on the ground when stationary.
The cars rocker cover also was very hot when I opened up the bonnet, even after 5 mins of use..

The third day, the original problem occurred when it would select all gears fine but wouldn't deliver power to the wheels..
Oil levels are fine, coolant was above minimum required levels.

any idea what the problem might be? For part pricing before I need to sort vehicle recovery to the garage.

    Thanks in advance.

Was there any distinct odour from the fluid on the ground and have you tried a pedal test to check for fault codes?
