It would be the easiest way I would say. It's also the way Regal did mine iirc.

They did a great job, drove in when they opened, by about 12.30 They done the clutch, slave, LSD, 4 wheel alignment check and road test.

Forgot i posted this (senior moment), if dropping the subframe, where would the steering rack be disconnected from, inside the car or on the rack itself? reason i ask is that after having my clutch replaced the steering wheel as something like a 5 degree play before the wheels start to turn.

I didn't drop the subframe when I upgraded my clutch. Only loose subframe bolts a little bit so I can get the gearbox out.

I once dropped the subframe and engine, and from memory I removed a bolt from the steering column inside the car down by the pedals. But the way the column connects to the rack there by the pedals, id say that the tightness of the bolt wouldn't have any effect on steering play.

Are you sure this 5 degree play is a new development? They do tend to have a sort of dead spot especially at centre point, probably calms the steering down a bit with all the power through the front wheels
