    Question Remap - Astra H 1.9CDTI

    All,

Considering remapping my Astra H 1.9CDTI, however not sure as to whether i want to proceed. I am concerned that, once i have remapped the vehicle, i will be lumbered with repair bills as i know the increase in torque will go over the threshold of the M32 gearbox.

Hoping to get people's thoughts and whether some have had experiences on this remap, so i can gauge whether it is worthwhile or not. Celtic Tuning have offered a map to raise BHP from 150 - 209 BHP, and raise torque from 236 lb to 305lb. I understand that 236lb is the threshold of the m32 gearbox. I have also been quoted (by another business) a custom remap to raise the performance to around 195 / 200bhp, and have slightly less torque of 295 / 300 lb. They stated that this is more within a 'safe threshold' and shouldn't have any negative after effects.

I am in two minds whether to proceed, and therefore posting this in the hope that i can get assurance whether to or not. I want optimum performance, however do not want this to come at the expense of replacing gearbox, turbo etc. I have enquired with an m32 gearbox specialist and also vauxhall remapping specialist, and they have said that the m32 gearbox and increase in torque is a 'myth' and so long as you replace the oil every year; it should all be ok.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts and hopefully experiences.

    Thanks all,

Hi - you might find more owners experiences on a forum that will have cdti owners - most on here drive petrol engined VXR's

Don't get confused with the 236lbft rating which doesn't mean that the minute you hit 237lbft it blows, it's about constants and I also believe that it's internal torque rating not just the engine output

Ok sounds promising. I have been quoted by rabbid remap to increase stats to 200BHP and 330lb of torque. Do you think this is too much considering I don’t want to risk failure or longevity of turbo and clutch etc. If so, what map (stats) would you recommend based on a low risk approach. I do change the oil religiously on an annual basis so hopefully this will help with maintenance.

I would go with Rabbids advice, he knows what he's talking about!

The box can take the increase to 300lbs, just change the oil to keep it fresh as its a cheap and easy diy job

Ok Andy, do you think the box will do the 330lb as quoted by Rabbid, and be ok in long term future? I can look into reducing this down to 300lb, if you really think this is the ‘safe’ threshold.

I wouldn't worry about it. People build garrett setups with the m32 box. M32 boxes go because of a poor bearing design not because of having too much torque pushed through them. Standard cars have the boxes go who have no power mods at all. Just get it done and stop worrying. Just change the oil regular and change gear properly (dont crunch the bearings and clutch fully down) and you'll be fine. There's too much scaremongering with these boxes.

I've ran 300bhp and 330/340 lbft through my vxr box for over 50k miles and my box is still original and in perfect working order.
