    Default Drivers side Clunk/donk

Astra has decided to start clonking badly. However only when standstill or moving very slowly. Turn the wheel from lock to lock get about 3/4 very loud clunk/bang/donk noise as turning the wheel. It can be felt through the wheel and pedals. When driving there is no noise and the car is fine. Top mount? Ball joint? Not too sure where to start

Loads of stuff moving around down there mate. Could be worn bushes or ballpoints or even snapped spring. Best thing to do is jack it up and have a look.

You’ll need to be poking around with a prybar.
Check all ball joints. Driveshafts. Droplinks. Springs. Even engine mounts. And top mounts. And may aswell check over wheel bearings too.

That’s what I intend to do. Strange it only happens when standstill, once that cars moving over say 10mph no noise at all, when reversing or manouvering/stand still that’s when the noise happens and it’s certainly loud. I have a feeling when the cars jacked up and the weight is lifted off the wheel will strugggle to find where it’s coming from

I believe the issue to be the top mount. As when you turn and let go of the wheel it pings back central. The clunking noise is coming from the spring. New top mount ordered will try and fix Wednesday. More worried about the top mount nut looking like it’s from the 1800’s though.

Start with Drop links and Engine mounts.

    Top mounts a possibility too

I once had a clunk that was cured with new wheels.
