    Default 3rd gear?

    Hello people.

    So not long got my new GTC VXR, absolutely love it, however got a bit of an issue;

    Car is a 68 plate had from 10 miles new and has now done 700 miles.

    3rd gear is producing what sounds to be a whine as I've seen it explained on many forums, etc. It sounds like an electric train accelerating kinda.

    Is this normal characteristics of this car or should I be taking it back and demand something be done?

    I understand that there is many threads about this, but I was yet to find one about a brand new car so I am curious for help.

    Cheers!

    Exactly this, I wouldn’t even bother about asking the question here, 700 miles, straight to the dealer

    Seen hit and miss posts all over and I'll be completely honest with you without naming the dealer as of yet, they told me it was normal in this car.

    The car has now intermittently popped out of 3rd gear even with the engine completely off, so it's not the clutch. It becomes an intermittent struggle to place in 3rd gear when the engine is off.

    The whining is consistent and happens no matter what, but like I said the dealer is having none of it.

    Not really sure what to do next as I was quite demanding with them. They said they cannot replicate the fault.

    Raise the fault with Vauxhall customer services and open a case file, they will speak to the dealer and hopefully sort your issue.

    I had this on my new 13 plate although it never jumped out of gear , VX said it was normal even though my mate had an identical car that was silent ! but it sounds like you car has low gearbox fluid to me , echoing what the others have said , take it back !

    Sorry bud, didn’t mean to seem dismissive and sorry that your dealer are being a bit crap, take it up with Vx and tase a case as been mentioned and if it’s jumping out of gear, take a video for reference and return as not fit for purpose, you really can refuse a car if it has a major fault, said it before, Had a car worked on by two Vx garages and they damaged the car at both garages lifting it, my vxr has never been over the door of one since I bought it new, the way I look at it, if something did go wrong would I trust them to fix it.......no.

    So I left a couple of posts and it wouldn't allow me to make them. I'd assume it's because I'm new.

    I'll be speaking with Vx on Monday morning as the dealer had another person test drive it this was their "VXR Specialist" lol. Never heard that one before, but okay. His words were "It's not the gearbox, but I don't know where it's coming from, but I can hear it". I questioned him as to how he could assume it wasn't the gearbox when it only happens in 3rd gear and nothing else and you told me you don't know where it's coming from. He repeated multiple times "This is my opinion and that's what matters"

    After that I proceeded to the sales manager who told me "Do what you want with it" "You aren't being helpful to us" "I have to listen to my tech" "Just take it and do what you want with it". I bit my tongue at this point and left as I was ready to explode.

    Get some legal advice, I take it you have finance? Was it no deposit? If so hand it back and stop payments! Contact the finance company and inform them of the issue first and see what they say, it’s technically their car after all, second thought, think it’s a vauxhall finance? Still, that’s unhelpful, get some legal advice
