    This is a great point tbh, my car barely goes anywhere these days and last year I changed the oil but the old oil from the year before still looked brand new. But I changed it anyway.

    It works out around every 3500 miles I do an oil change. The oil going dark means it's doing its job keeping the engine clean! In a diesel new oil goes black almost instantly

    Oil that's been through the sump will always go black pretty rapid. Better off checking it from the dipstick as it's a slightly better indication of how much the oil has degraded.
