    Dont think this correct either, the weight is added and the amount of turn is reduced.

    Im sure someone will confirm and give the technical info

    Sorry if this is in the wrong thread or section, but can someone tell me what this "stepper motor" thingy-ma-jig is,and what it function is in the speedo????

    Just got back to this thread..

    I dont know for sure but I suspect that the way its done is that the steering ecu looks at the steering column angle sensor with sport off if it sees say 10 degrees of movement it tells the motor on the rack to assist the steering so that the wheels end up moving say 20 degrees.
    With sport turned on it does exactly the same but less movement of the steering angle sensor (lets say only 5 degrees) still results in 20 degrees of wheel movement.

    Be interesting to find out for sure.

    Dave, not quite sure what you mean, I suspect the speedo needle is driven by a stepper motor - cable speedos are a thing of the past.

    the stepper motor is when you first turn the key in the ignition and all the needles shoot round to max,preety cool i think

    My Cougar did this if there was a problem somewhere, that indicated that the ecu was re setting itself! :eek:

    does any one know where i can get a fascia plate so that i can fit my stereo in and take the factory fitted on out
