Default FAO: Any detailer

Hi all,

A few weeks ago my mate was helping wash my car and was going round my car getting rid of any tar spots and later found that he used a dish cloth to apply Auto Glym Tar Remover as I went indoors to make a brew and then found this when the sun was shining on it after I had dried the car:

Any ideas what it is or whether the dish cloth has done this???

Thanks in advance
Mark

Id wash and clay that area and see what you are left with, its hard to make out the picture, but you've either got residue of polish/wax etc that has partly been removed by the tar remover, by stripping it off you can start again.

Worst case scenario you've got some scratches there, you may be able to remove/hide them with SRP..

Oh and I'd use clay to remove tar spots in future!

Cheers mate I have never waxed the car since buying it brand new in December of last year, just washed it. I have never used clay on a car in my life so will be a total new experience for to use it.

I was going to use Autoglym SRP to see if that removes it, what you think?

Thanks once again.

its possible it could have scratched the paint

dish cloth is far too harsh to be used on paint.

Id definately clay it and get some degreaser on there and see if it definately has marked the paint. If it has, it will only be a light marring, so should come off with some elbow grease and SRP.

In future do I just use something really soft to apply the tar remover? Another way would be to put the tar remover in a spray bottle and watch it run off?

by some microfbire cloths from somewhere cheap

i got some from my local motor factors for a couple of quid. I believe costco do like packs of 20 for a couple of quid also.

Then you can afford to thrown them away after using tar remover on them.

you can never really wash that sort of stuff out. Its horrible stuff that should never go near your paintwork again.

Unless you plan on keeping one purely for "tar remover" use, every time you're willing to strip back your wax and re apply.

Yeah that's what I was going to do just use the same one for the "tar remover".

SRP wont remove any marks, it will only mask them.
