  • Painting/polishing crossover

Wanting to do my crossover either painted or polished ie chrome? I have heard of polishing kits, what is involved in this? What is the process in doing this? obviously I know if I was to paint it I know how to ie primer and thin coats etc but the stock crossover has black bumpy bits on it how do i smooth this? And I have heard it's like a heat protector? Is this true? If so will removing it do any damage?
    Any info Is appreciated

if you paint it just use filler/primer till its filled in the heat coating.

From what ive read on here that dimpled plastic on the cross-over pipe aids in heat reduction. Are you really sure that you wont want to get a cdti airbox conversion in 6 months time, therefore putting to waste all ur hard work?

I think if you want to spruce up the engine bay abit, paint your rocker cover like i did.

If you want it polished use nitromors to remove the black coating thats on there. Then you will have to use different grade wet and dry sandpaper til you get a smooth surface. Then with a metal polishing kit polish it up.If you want the bumps removed either use a grinder or hacksaw them off and file flat.Heres a pic of how it can polish up,just did this tophat for teri.It does take a bit of time and effort

i have bought polishing stuff from this guy on ebay, you will need these

or just buy a gloss black spray tin from bullseye for £3 and take the crossover off when cold and spray it loads of times and it comes up like brand new shiny gloss black..

So does it not matter about removing the black stuff? ie is it a heat protector?
