  • Kwik Fit scum

Was giving the car a wash and noticed a wee screw in the tyre....thought oh well its sunday im going to have to go against my better judgement and pop into kwik fit to have it removed.

Went along, boy had one look and said "sorry pal you need a new tyre i cant repair that" - im currently running continental sport 2 so he said £240 for a tyre...i about dropped dead....so told him to leave it and drove home

Once home i got out my pliers and thought to hell with it im going to pull it out, i pulled it out and it was the smallest screw you have seen approx 1 cm

Ive poured some fairy liquid and water over the tyre to check for bubbling but i think ive been lucky

Dear Kwik Fit, go **** yersels

Bit harsh their pal - there is a legal section that they are allowed to repair punctures and if it's near the edge then are not allowed to repair it and the tyre would need to go off to a specialist tyre repair centre who are certified to a different level iirc

am with you there, people nowa days just dont try fixing things. they are trained to think profit before quality of service.

I will ony go to garages that have come very highly recommened, otherwise i would rather do it myself, at least i know i am not getting screwed for every last penny i have

Not really that harsh, if kwik fit can diagnose the length and damage a screw has done to a tyre just by looking at it then blow me down with a feather lol Seems being under ford ownership the answer will always be "A new one is required sir"

Glad it wasnt as bad as first diagnosed

Wasnt near the edge pal, was more than repairable should it have been required....the toss pot took one look at it and made no attempt to look for any other option than how much can i screw this guy for

oh i know he was only wanting the nail out..so probs expecting a charge of £10 or so...would of done the same myself..but apart from that if i needed my car looked at/ any work done..i would rather get the bus than take my car to any of them like said they are a rip off.

It wasn't a one-armed guy who served you, was it?
I just wonder if he has the same approach to removing splinters

Funny enough i work for kwik fit and its down to the centre its self, you will get a diffrent levle of service at every centre, we usually squirt soapy water on and see if its leaking, they should have a ruler with where the maximum border for a tyre repair can be, it has the max distance for a tyre width, 185/195 etc and a line.
