  • OMG @ Halfords

I got a Ripspeed DVD player fitted by Halfords on Saturday 22nd of August and then yesterday on bank holiday monday got a sub and amp fitted to the car, the second guy that did it on monday said that the wee orange lead (the ignition lead I think he said) wasn't connected to my fusebox so he booked me in for this saturday to get that sorted as it should have been done, unfortunately at the time there were other cars booked in for when he finished with mine so I didn't think much of it as long as it got sorted, how wrong was I!

This morning, I went to start my car, firstly when I unlocked it my car alarm went off.. so was like ok? then when I got in the car and tried to start it, it would seem the battery has drained! Absolutely no life from the car, so the service manager will be ringing me when he comes in @ 11 apparently, but seriously where do I stand here? Will I need to fork out for a new battery?

So angry right now, punching bag here I come!

You just need to jump start the car using jump leads and allow the battery to recharge and it will be fine, you do not need a new battery.

First off, you need to work out why the battery is losing its power.

If you can prove that the above malfunctions with your car were due to the works carried out by halfords then you are protected under "The Consumer Protection from unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and The Sale of Goods Act 1979".

If halfords choose too oppose this then you could go down the avenue of creating a fuss for them and threatning to sue for loss of earnings etc.

Take pictures of all works they have carried out and possibly get a second opinion from someone.

They have not put a remote lead in correctly that's all.

Don't need a new battery just get them to correct there mistake and job done.

Hint get halfords to fit anything again do it yourself or use a good audio shop who specialise in that sort of thing.

Why would you let some fool from halfords work on your car i would not even let them do my tyre pressures.
you will need to see what vauxhall say about whats up with the car then go from there as i bet the guy who fitted the gears nows nowt about cambus.

They hav just wired the ignition live up wrong thats all as paid above.

Also from above don't jump start the car, the canbus ecu's can be damaged when doing that.

Halfords did this to me on my first car. As already said it is the remote wire not fitted correctly so the amp has stayed on all the time. After that I fitted all my sub and amps, piece of piss when you realize how to do it rather than goin to halfrauds.

Hi there i get so many people coming into me with faults that Halfords have done when fitting audio, the orange cable that they are talking about would of been the illumination which you do not really need on the aftermarket stereos as they sense the power change through the canbus system, the only cable they should of connected should of been the red fly lead on the harness lead which i normally connect to the hazard switch on a MK5 Astra, thing to check if you have a meter is at the amp its normally a blue wire which is connected to the remote switch normally the smallest cable turn off the ignition take out the key and see if there is still 12v coming through i have had a few jobs in from halfords where they have connected the remote wire to a +12v live.

if you need any help drop me a message i make a nice bit of money out of sorting Halfords mistakes and make sure you keep your receipt for the stereo i am afraid i have had a few people coming to me asking if i can sort the ripspeed stereos

First problem is what others have said, letting Halfords mess with your car lol.

Sounds like the remote lead. This leads switches the amp on and off according to wether the car is on or not.

If you take a quick look at a wireing diagram online you will see how easy it is to fit a system yourself.

I used to do all my amps and subs myself when I was younger, lol, those days were when I driving my Mk2 GTI 16V and CAV SRI 130, , very easy to do in those days with no Canbus, but I still think I can do a better job that those at Haulfords, .

Hope you get it sorted, matey, .
