...for VXR & CDTi...

Regal Autosport and our partners, Blizzard Intercoolers are proud to announce the most highly developed and
tested Intercooler Kit for the Astra VXR

Blizzard have huge experience on the European racing scene and use CAD flow Simulation programmes as well
real life flow bench testing evaluations to produce the very best flow.
The intercooler kit is designed to retain as much of the OE equipment possible while still producing the most
efficient intake cooling system. You will not have to swap your fans for smaller items to squeeze our kit in. It
is designed to fully integrate into the VXR.
Another characteristic of our intercoolers is the unique end tank design. Some UK kits use square shaped end
tanks and the inlet and outlet of the tanks both at the bottom. This is an incredibly inefficient design, as shown
below.....

Most of the charge flows through the bottom 35% of core, with the top 65% causing detrimental pressure drop
until high boost is reached. Worse again inlet and outlet are at the same level!
The Regal/Blizzard intercoolers only use smooth, rounded end tanks with opposing intake and outlet pipe
positions to ensure 100% of the core is used to cool the charge air... after all what use is a large intercooler
if it is not being used efficiently and is only producing a restriction of flow rate greater then that of its cooling
benefit?
Furthermore rather then sticking the intercooler in the standard position where it is suffocated by the tiny 2mm
spaced fins of the air conditioning radiator, we have chosen to complete the job by reorganizing the order of the
cooling elements in the front of the VXR.
We begin by removing the standard intercooler along with the associated pipes which will be discarded. We then
relocate the a/c radiator in the position of the old intercooler using 4 brackets included, sitting it in front of the
water rad, no bending or altering of the std pipe work is necessary.
We now place the highly efficient approx 8litre Blizzard intercooler in front of the a/c rad, at the very front of the
car. The spacing on the fins of the intercooler is large enough not to restrict airflow to the a/c or water radiators.
In its new position, right at the front of the car, it can gain maximum airflow to reduce charge temp even more by
using the ram effect of the front bumper mouth.
We do not claim to have '0 pressure drop' with our intercooler as this is simply not possible, or even desired! To
have 0 pressure drop the intercooler will be acting like a tube, not turbulating the air or cooling it, air will simply
pass through it at the same temp. You cannot claim to have 0 pressure drop and an efficient intercooler by the
very nature that hot air is less dense than cool. At the same time it is a possible danger to have a very high flowing
intercooler but it not be very efficient. Intercoolers that claim huge flow rates are usually not very efficient, again it
probably is acting like a pipe and not turbulating the air within it to cool it efficiently. Also it may only be flowing air
through a section of the intercooler, rather then using the complete core... Designing an efficient intercooler is a
fine balance of these factors.
We have been developing the Kit with Blizzard Intercoolers since the VXR launch. We have made cad simulations
of the VXR engine bay along with its flow characteristics and flow models of various intercooler positions and end
tanks as well as what effect pipe work changes have on internal flow of the intercooler itself.
Coupled with life size development models and extensive real world testing on flow benches and development cars
we believe we have managed to gain this delicate balance.
First to the market is not always best… we have taken our time to produce the best kit possible.
Kits will be in stock in 4 weeks and CDTi Performance intercoolers following in a further 2 weeks.
Installation is extremely simple and requires one person and 2hours.
Price = £650 for the Full Kit and £150 extra if you require our fitting service.
