  • M32 Gearbox issue

Hi wondering if yo can help, I own a Mk5 Astra SRi 2.0 Turbo the 200BHP model now it has the 6 speed M32 gearbox fitted which I believe to be the same as the VXR.

When the car is cold the gear stick always springs back to neutral, however after about 30 mins drivng usually 70mph motorway driving I find that it no longer springs back, eg if I push it to the left it will stay there this makes gear changes it bit more awkward and its like this until I leave it to cool down.

Now has anyone else had this or know if its the gearbox or linkage at fault, I have 2 weeks of my warranty left so if its the g/box I will take it in.

I've asked on other forums and no one knows

    Cheers

If you only have two weeks left get it in ASAP. Bearings will be on the way out i think.

Thats not good, if they won't fit it under warranty how much is it to get the box reconditioned?

Have you any performance mods/map? If not they will absolutely replace it or kick up a fuss with customer care.

Its just got a S/S precat pipe on as the old one was shot, nothing else. Trouble is I bought it form a second hand garage, so not sure how good the warranty is lol, they did replace the alternator on it after a week! Just trying to get in touch with them!

Well spoke to the garage and they originally said it would have to go to there g/box specialist, however just had a phone call to say that the specialist has suggested changing the cables first as when they get hot they could be seizing up at g/box end. They said if it was the gearbox it would do it all the time not just when its hot. The garage have said if that doesn't work then it will go to get the box checked all under warranty

Does anyone know if the 6 speed box in the Saab 9-3 from 2002 onwards is the same setup as the Astra one?

Reason I ask is a company does a repair kit for the Saab that sorts exactly the problem I'm having.

                  Now fixed

Well I'd spoken to my garage last week and mentioned to them about the repair kit after speaking to the specialist and once they realised that Vauxhall only offered a full tower they decided to buy the kit!

Well it went in today and got a phone call after an hour to say it was done, they were impressed with the kit as everything was there to fix it. Picked up tonight and I can feel the difference already! Oh and was all done under warranty

They said that the old pivot was corroded and the bush resembled a soggy doughnut lol!

Apparantly the cause is from engine cleaning and the caustic chemicals used, this happens usually on the forecourt at garages and other the pivot and bush corrode!

So if anyone else has similar issues try the kit, if in doubt ring them as he was very helpful!
