  • Santa Pod today

I went in the VXR, fastest time I managed was a 14.9, that was running on normal unleaded, track was good today hardly any wheelspin just don't seem to be able to launch very well.

Has anyone else run up there? Your times etc?
I have a difference of opinion to you.

you probs wouldve done a 14.5 with proper fuel.

14.5 seems to be the time to aim for with a standard vxr
    stage 2 vxr

I cant see how higher grade fuel would knock almost half a second off the time!!!

                In fact it wont! lol

That is like saying that its running about 40-50bhp down on power until you put better fuel in!

its all down to driver and conditions

                    I disagree.....
I thought thorney conducted a test and concluded that in a m3 tesco 99 ron gave the car an extra 10% power equating to 40 bhp........

More bhp must equal better speed surely?

                    Or am i wrong?

I cannot see how unless I launched at 5000 RPM how I would have got a better time TBH on the day, my launch was ok most of the day mininmal wheel spin just didn't seem to want to beat 14.9, I had Sport on and T/C off as well.

I couldn't catch the Saxo which is 170bhp VTS even towards the end of the line which is approaching speeds of 100mph

i agree with marc the higher the octane the better the bhp all the tuners say the same :? if there was no difference why dont we have 1 rating eg 95 ron ????

your right, but some can not even tell a difference when using better fuel so saving half a second sounds alot.
as far as im aware he ran an astra up santa pod?

Better fuel will equal better performance. No question... but .4 of a second?? No chance!

It may not sound a lot, but in real terms, half a second is a lot!

I too have suffered at Santa Pod (not in the VXR) and struggled with grip etc, so although putting 99 RON in will help, you need to get some Toyo 888's on the front! lol

bad fuel could easily knock 0.4 of second of your time. bad fuel can seriously effect the performance of a turbo engine.

why you think drag racers use upto 110 octane fuel.

half a second can be a lot as you approach the 10 sec mark but anything over and toward 15 secs is not a lot really.

again though this could all be down to track temp, tyre temp, driver etc etc.

my mate managed to knock 1.5 seconds of his time at york from his first run to his last. and that was a in 4x4 escort cossie. so im sure bad fuel could affect the vxrs time by upto half a second.
