  • Should i do it??

    Aup people,
This june i will be doing the north coast 500 which will probably be the swan song for my beloved corsa as i am due to start a family soon and my gf hates the car😂😂
Im currently running 220hp a16ler, with 613cc injectors, airtec intercooler, 3" scorpion downpipe, standard exhaust centre section, 2.5" cobra cat back with a RnD motorsport map (that has launch control! Not the greatest but a laugh), they said the centre section is only thing holding me back going to 230hp!
my only predicament is it a cobra sports cat costs £500! Do you reckon i should do it for an extra 10hp??? It doesnt really seem worth it to me but o really want to get the most out of the car for this trip. So im basically looking for you lot to persuade me to so it haha. Should i??????

I had a Cobra sportcats on the SRI and the EML light came on.

I didn't really notice any power increase going from std cat -> decat -> sport cat (because i was sick of the smell of the decat) so i don't think its worth the £500.

Sounds like you are running the standard secondary cat so would you not be better just buying one of those cheap Toyo straight though pipes off ebay for £80 and fitting that to get your extra 10bhp? They'll be able to map out the EML light and you can just put your current cat section back on for MOT.

So just the cost of buying the pipe and having the map tweaked (which i guess you'd be doing anyway)
Corsa C 1.4 (SOLD), Corsa D SRI Turbo (SOLD), Facelift Corsa D 1.4 SE (SOLD), Now Corsa E VXR...plus about 20 other non VXs

Cheers for that mate, that link is for a corsa e, looks like the d model comes in one piece, the downpipe and centre section. Ill probably do that tbh dont think I'll notice 10hp tbh will i😂 does it make it stupid loud too? Mine already has quite a drone to it. Hopefully it wont dive me mad on the 7hr trip to Inverness haha. Has anyone here done the nc500?

Its the same fitment for the A16 D's and the B16 E's so that one i linked will fit fine mate.

          I think the noise will depend on your catback really;

I ran a 3" decat downpipe on the standard E system (no cats whatsoever) and it wasn't stuipid loud, however i also ran a full decat on my SRI with a cobra catback and that was a bit much for my liking...just personal preference really, but i'm probably a bit older than you as well.

Put it like this, it will be louder, so any drone so have already will be amplified.

Its only 7 hours at the end of the day, and once you pass mid Scotland its not like you'll be doing much motorway work so it won't be constant

              Thanks!

I've not done much on the E VXR since getting it TBH, only done the springs myself and swapped the downpipe a few times.

Before that i had Corsa SRI Turbo (same engine) that i did a lot to...exhaust, suspension, rad, intercooler, cambelt, tyres, gearbox bearings etc...did all that myself so know a fair bit about them now. Loved that car. I'm pretty handy generally TBH; currently grafting a new front and rear end onto my project motorbike and converting it to stick coils atm as well

Btw mate forgot to ask, did you get your decat mapped in or did you just use a spacer? 2 hr drive to RnD motorsport so contemplating just using a spacer instead of remap

I used a spacer, but the light still kept coming on every 200 miles or so.

I just reset it with an OBD reader but it started to get annoying so am back on the standard cat now

                    Hi

personally £500 seems a lot but then it is a main stream make, when I had my cat replaced due to it being melted I went to Tony Banks in Leeds and it was just shy of £200 for a sports cat. For the rest of the system to become a 3” he was going to charge £299 so in my opinion go to a local exhaust specialist and get them to do one for you, saving bucks but still getting same job for less wonga! Keeps the other half happy 😃 haha and gives you what your looking for.

and yes definitely do it. ( I’m contemplating getting mine forged but that is a huge outlay and then you’ve got to think about new manifolds turbos etc if your aim is bigger power)
