It sounds as if the dealer has registered the car as a pre registered car. It should only take about 7-10 days for a log book to come from the DVLA as all new cars are now taxed on site. I would phone the DVLA and give them personal details & reg number. Dvla will only speak to the registered owner.
When the log book comes through i reckon its gonna show 2 owners rather than 1 which would prove its a pre reg car. "stealers" dont get any extra money for keeping a log book for 6 months. Hope this helps?

Are you sure about that? I think they are able to buy the car cheaper from Vaux if they register it as a demonstrator which they have to keep for 3 months....

'Stealers' do get money off on certain deals, like when we have to hold the V5 for 90 days. But it's not quite comission.

It's part of the bargain, Vauxhall give us money off the car, our part of the bargain is to hold the V5 for a certain amount of days.

If we want Vauxhall to give us some money off a car, we have to do something for them. It's give and take.

If you ask any 'stealer' who is worth their salt, they'll be transparent with how everything works and try and explain it as best as they can. It can get quite complicated though!

Thanks for that, nice to hear from a decent dealer and you can only hope your honestly earns you more sales on here.

What I dont understand is, why is it in VX's interest that you hold the V5 for any amount of days?

I would be fuming if I baught a brand new car and It showed 2 owners from new! Surely this is against the law!

It depends on when he/she bought the car/when the dealer released the car to the customer. Plus it might not even be on the hold 90 day V5 agreement.

But then again, it may be straightforward sale, and the DVLA haven't turned it around yet/lost in the post.

Thank you very much. Where the dealership hold the V5 for 90 days, this is the 'Try and Buy' agreement. You 'try' the car for 90 days (this is where we hold the V5 for 90 days), then if you're happy, you 'buy' the car.

But to do this, the car must be registered to us. Hence why, on some V5's, the first owner is the dealer you bought it from.

It won't show two owners from new on the V5.

On a V5, it shows previous owners, which will be one (the Vauxhall dealer).

It will only show two previous owners by the third owner.

Would you rather save £4,000 (for example) on the car or be the first owner on a V5?

I know it's a matter of principle to some people, but to others, it's just simple economics.

Hope this makes things a little clearer.

I know it wont show 2 registed owners but It will show a previous owner so techinally including you the car has had 2 owners.

I know you save money on a pre-registered car, (I did this myself) however by the sounds of it the 'stealer' that sold the OP his car hasn't explained the whole situation of holding the V5 for 90 days to him. It sounds as though he thinks he has baught a 'Brand New Car' which in all due respect, he hasn't. In which case if he is still within his 90 days could be hand the car back?
