  • Which is faster, Insignia or Astra VXR?

    Hi Guys,

I'm curious which is faster the Insignia VXR or the Astra VXR... On paper the Insignia is faster and the 4X4 system ensures extra grip on even wet surfaces whereas the Astra would have wheel spin in certain conditions - and I personally think the Insignia would be faster but interested in your thoughts

Anyone ever been involved in a drag race of these 2 cars?

From what I've read on here getting a quick start in the siggy is tough. I get the impression that the siggy is a real fast tourer. Round a track might say the Astra but drag race the siggy

The Astra J, on paper the Astra H doesn't seem close enough in power to cause any problem for the Insignia.

Power is one thing - weight is another - the H is 1392kg with driver, the Insignia is 1825kg iirc

          Astra

True but if you look at the published 0-60 times which takes into account the difference in weight and power etc:

            Astra H VXR: 6.2s
            Astra J VXR: 5.8s
            Insignia VXR: 5.6s

And I assume all those figures don't take traction into account on real roads ... Mild bit of moisture on the ground and the Insignia gains another second advantage

0-60 is one measure which in the real world is pointless unless you spend your time racing from lights to lights on the way to McD.
4x4 helps to get traction but then is useless in a straight line but you still need to carry that extra weight with you.

The Insignia is not designed to live it's life 1/4 mile at a time lol

              Astra

Not sure I agree with that, the insignia is a powerful machine and reckon an Astra would struggle to keep up. I think it would be more of a kneck-and-kneck scenario on a track

the astra would lose the insignia on track plus be alot quicker on road in my eyes gota look at weight and how it puts it s power down

                      Astra's ( H's ) don't struggle beating anything, especially if modified well !

Agree too. Mines standard and when I went to Snetterton although I was beat through corners on the straights stuff moved over to let you past. In Perry's they didn't have much time at all to move lol
