  • Opinions on these tyres please?

    Hi again guys.

Following my last thread about tyre pressures, I think one of the reasons I am struggling for traction is the front tyres are getting a bit low - lower than I thought they were to be honest.

So, I don't want to spend a fortune unless required - so have any of you used these few in the past? What are they like in the wet etc? They all seem to have good reviews......

    Tyre size 235/35 Y 19"

    1. Barum Bravuris £106 each fitted
    2. Avon ZZ3 £150 fitted
    3. Goodyear Eagle F1 £163 fitted

    Thanks in advance.

I'm quite impressed with my Bridgestone RE050's at the minute. Good dry grip when they've got some heat in them, confidence installing in the wet and they're wearing really well.

Albeit not on a Vectra VXR, but I have got 225/45/18 & 245/45/18.

            Wouldnt have any of them.

I've got the Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas. £115 a corner, and better than most, as measured in Evos last big tyre test.

            Click Me !!

As you can see, they fare better than most and are only £115 a corner. Bargain !

            Helps they look cool too

other place that has them is www.camskill.co.uk

but they're about £2 a tyre more expensive than www.elitedirect.co.uk at the minute

Interesting *** bit of information, the name is wierd sounding but they're not cheap taiwanese or chinese junk. Vredstein is actually a dutch firm.

So you wouldn't have any of them even though the Goodyears came ahead in the review?

I'm getting Bridgestones fitted under the service plan - £240 a corner they would have been otherwise at the dealer... (Would have called Camskill otherwise)

The vredsteins are £115, the F1s are £150 ish iirc

so £35 a tyre more expensive, and they are known for wearing really badly. Ive had a mate who only got 6k out of his set. Others my find different, but they are generally regarded as being quite bad for wear.

ALso, the F1s are not that superior. The Vredsteins fared better than the F1s in some tests, and came top in the subjective "tyre feel" test.

Plus the % improvement in dry braking distances is not relfected in the % price increase, making the vredsteins better value for money, if not the more outright superior tyre.

                              Ok, another few questions guys....

                              1. I only need 2 front tyres at the moment - however, that would mean my car would have 3 different types of tyres on. Evans Halshaw decided to put a new tyre on one of my rear corners (before I got the car) that was a different make to the 4 fitted already. So I would end up with 2 Vredestein's on the front, and 2 different makes on each side at the back!

Would this bother anyone from a handling point of view?

                              2. How much can I expect to pay to get the (delivered) Vredestein tyres fitted and balanced at some tyre center, and would they expect me to take away my old tyres?

                              Thanks.
