  • No luck with wheels

I foolishly took the bus to a car wash as i didn't have time to do it by hand, on checking over the car to see how poorly cleaned it was and put the aerial back on, noticed one of my wheels has been deeply battered all the way round. it wasn't like it earlier as i checked the tyre pressures so can only assume it was something on the tyre brushes at the wash, the wash has signs saying they take no responsibilityb for any damage caused so complaining to them is going to get me nowhere. annoyed as the rims aren't cheap to replace or get refurbed so i'm really miffed.... rant over

if i dont have time to wash the car properly ill always go for the jet wash every time. You control what you do to your car, and you can usually get very decent results with the jetwash by using the power washer only.

That way you get a non contact wash, and if you do find some stubborn bits (usually at the bottom of the doors) that need a contact wash, you can power wash their brush first, rinse the car, then gently wash the lower half of the car to minimise swirling.

I have just returned from the car wash to find 2 of my wheels badly battered, there was a right tailback at the tesco jet wash, so went to ARC car wash, i know i shouldnt have but didnt have time to do by hand myself!

They look like the roller that guide your car through have pushed them in about 3 inches around the rim. All the paint is cracked and can see bare alloy.

Need to find a wheel repairer in the kings lynn or east anglia area that i trust to do them now!

So peed off with myself its unbelievable!

I feel i have aired by frustration now, and hope you get your alloys sorted also!

If you do find somewhere local let me know, may even be a discount if we both go there!!

your best off leaving it till you can wash it, sorry to hear about your damage and the feelings not nice when it happens.

you cant beat a hand wash after a good blast with the jet wash.

im very shocked at all these hand wash places popping up every where on little bits of land they can find and the ammount of ppl using them.

plus you dont know what there useing in the water and spraying on your wheels.

Ouch, really sorry to hear about your wheels, Buddy. A couple of weeks ago I thought I'd just put my Burg through the Arc carwash near me in Aberdeen, but the guy who operates it actually warned me that because of the low profiles, my wheels could be scuffed all the way round by the chain mechanism they use. I was SO grateful to him for the warning, as otherwise I would have just gone ahead and put it through. Surely someone should have made you aware of this too? Anyway, hope you can get your wheels refurbed.

Must have been the 19's and the low profiles that were the problem with mine!

Still mad with myself for letting it happen, maybe its the VXR MARC detailing payback fairy telling me not to do it again!!

it's just so bloody annoying that there is nothing that you can do to make the garage pay for the damage, but the 19" alloys are *****, the metal is so soft they damage too easily, at least all my rims match now they're all shagged, the wash also chipped the paint just behind the door too so it goes from bad to worse, i'm now a convert to vxrmarc's way of thinking and car washes are sporn of the devil

blimey, thats a shocker mate....still might be worth pursuing a claim as i know someone who made a sucessful claim after having their car trashed by a carwash. They also dispayed disclaimers, however they still have a duty of care?

Is it worth the hasle and the money just for the principle of it?

I cant really afford new wheels or the cost of taking action against them!
