This is a ruff guide how to do it mate,

    1. Jack up car and put on axle stands
    2. remove wheels
    3. remove 3 bolts in strut (2 lower ones that hold the hub onto the strut and the other top one holds the plastic arm onto the strut. you cant see the lowest bolt in the pic)

    4. remove the wires and brake hose from strut ( plastic clip)
    5. push the hub down so the strut is now hanging free.
    6. under the bonnet remove the plastic clips holding the strut in place (best get a hand from someone to hold it while you remove the clips or the strut will just fall out)
The clip splits in half, use a screw driver to prize apart, be careful not to damage it.

    7. remove strut from car
    8. use a spring tensioner tool to clamp the old spring

    9. with the spring fully compressed remove the top nut on the strut, this is the hardest part as 9 times out of ten the nut is corroded on!!! you need to soak in wd40 and use a goose neck ring spanner to get a good fit on the nut and hold the center of the strut with a torx bit.
(another idea is to nip down to your local garage or kwit-fit etc with the struts and get them to remove the old springs and fit the new ones if you don't have the tools)
    10. lay out the parts as they come off so you know which way they go back on!

    11. slacken the spring clamps off the old spring and fit to the new spring and compress it.
    12. fit your new spring and make sure its sitting in correctly, you will see a seat for the spring to sit in.
    13. refit all parts to the strut, once tight release the spring clamps.
    14. refit strut to the car and fit all nuts and bolts and wires etc.

    15. make sure all parts are tight and fit wheel and lower car back to ground.

Job Done ! now for the other side

Hope that helps you, any questions feel free to ask!

rosco, thats superb fella, thank you very much
i was wondering how the top came away from the turret.
on my old vec there was a large washer type thing with the nut on that.
Would it be easier to crack the top nut before jacking up.

        No probs mate
Yes you can do that if you want, best to give them a soak over night with WD40

Maybe this should be moved to the How to section folks, useful bit of information and well described.
