  • Police Query...

    Hey All,
Got a bit of a query to our resident police members or ex police members and its not the usual speeding based questions

My other half was driving to work this morning and she was cut up by a silver ford transit connect who pulled in front of her and slammed on his brakes. Anyway my missus can be a bit fiesty and gave him a bit of a mouthful at the next junction, it was at this point she realised the driver was wearing a black stab vest with a police badge on it which the driver then pointed to. My missus then joined the motorway and was promptly followed by this van who then drove dangerously close behind my fiancee but was not flashing headlights or indicating to pull over, at this point she phoned me (handsfree) and was vey scared and in tears. She then exits and the next junction for her work with this van still right up behind her and then she turns into the business park just off the junction where she works but the van then peels off and does not follow.
On my suggestion she phoned the police when she got to work and reported the incident, they have since got back her and are concerned that the reg number of the van is not linked to the police whatsoever and dont think that an officer would drive like that so they are now looking into the incident.

My concern is that this could be someone inpersonating a police officer, and what would have happened to her if she pulled over. Are there many cases of this?

Any ideas, thoughts or advice from our resident police experts would be much appriciated.

    Many thanks,
    BD

i cant help other than say i think you did the right thing reporting it with any luck they will have a marker on the van now and see if they are impersonating police officers.

can`t be too carefull these days and you`ve done the right thing by phoning the police . if it turns out to be the police make a formal complaint as even when on call to get somewhere they have to put public safety 1st and by the sounds of this they failed to do this ,

Firstly she did the right thing and she may need to make a statement explaining what happened from start to finish in as much detail as possible, if this is the case then its better if she doesnt dicuss it with anyone else as certain events may become unclear which could be vital for the investigation. Cases like these are taken very seriously though and hope she is ok. If she is still upset and traumertised (spelling?) then there is victim support she can contact for help and guidence, just ask the force investigating for the number.

            Hope this helps

Good sound advice there. Be well dodgy if it was an actual fed.

yoive answered your own questions really. you have reported it which was the right thing to do and the police dont have that vehicle listed as one of theirs. there are the odd incidents of people pretending to be police, ambbulance staff etc but there few and far between from experience.

I had a similar thing happen to me in my astra. A black seat with apparent police officers in tried to pull me over. I wasnt going to stop as you dont have to as long as you are driving to the nearest police station. I called the local police number (parrot handsfree kit) and they told me that they cant confirm if it is one of theirs but all they can say was they dont have Seats on their fleet and to drive to the police station, they also asked for a reg. I decided that the best course of action was to loose them, so i did very quickly. I got the reg and reported it, later that week i heard of 2 cars that got jacked by a black seat. Didn't hear anything from the police about my incident.

Close call if i had pulled over.

                      As said above.

One person on here got pulled over by a golf r32 with blue lights, he pulled over and took his car from him violently. Dont think id ever stop for a unmarked car unless i was in a mad mood lol.

Sorry to hear about the incident and my slow reply, as already said may well not be a police officer, many people wearing similar clothing some with the intent of passing them off as police, lots of kit can be picked up easily. If it does turn out to be an officer then arrange to speak to his supervisor who will explain the options available to you.

good call that time but be warned folks, this urban legend that you dont have to stop for police cars, marked or unmarked as long as your driving to the nearest police station is rubbish. if you dont stop for the genuine police then you risk getting done for failing to stop etc. and then if you try to loose them you may face you car being stung or t-pac'd etc. best bet if you have any doubts drive normally, or maybe slower and calll the police on 999. there is a legal exemption to use your mobile phone whilst driving as long as its to call the emergancy services for a genuine reason

similar thing also happened to me a subaru sti classic shape was right up my behing on the m/way so i dropped dow a cog and pulled away a bit then slowed down into the middle lane as not overtaking anything, the car continued to do the same in the middle lane, then pulled out it had 4 people in wearing police tops and the passenger in the front pulled his badge and showed me through the window...he was still behind me but the golden rule is if they dont blues and 2's you dont under any circumstances pull over...many fraudsters out there atm
