  • Mechanical query on an MR2

    Alright guys and girls,

I told my freind id seek all your expertise on an issue they are having with a toyota MR2.

Basically when the car is cold the rev counter is revving up and down on its own and if doing this while standing still and trying to set off, the engine will cut out and take a while to get going again (if it does it while already moving the car will accelerate on its own) . The engone is also struggling to keep temperature and when the temp drops the engine will start revving again up and down, then cut out.

I used to have a pug 206 and mine did the exact same thing, was a right pain, and pretty embarassing. I never got mine fixed as traded in in for the VXR, but i was told it could have been the stepper motor.

    Any ideas? thanks in advance.

    Jonny.

I would be looking at the idle control valve/system. A faulty lambda may also cause a dodgy idle too.

        Difficult to diagnose remotely unfortunately.
