Swinging towards an ST170, they're dead cheap on ebay.
Doesn't matter, the criteria is cheap, fast and can take a hammering
Fiesta st is faster than a focus st 170 plus the fiesta can take a hammering to and the handling is also good, got one the now and got it rolling road with an exhaust system and induction kit it made 170bhp
I had a 172 cup for a year, never went wrong and it did get a good hammering, and they are quick within double digit speeds. Also dead cheap now mine went for £2200 on 60k miles.
I think it's gonna be an ST170, EP3 or a Clio 182..
Ive owned all 3 in the last 18 months. Loved my 182cup but had to sell due to house fire or id still have it. Need a garage that knows what they're doing with the engine, coz the timing belts have to be done bang on. ST170 is slow due to silly huge gearing. You'll get over 70mph in second, but a brilliant runabout. Still own my ep3. Absolutely bomb proof. Choose an original spec one and you wont go far wrong. Need a timing chain at 100k, but thats it. Future classic once the current flood of boy racers manage to reduce the numbers.
Id definately go 172 or 182 no question. Same engine, different manifold but just remember the belt change is over 500quid.
I had a an Ibiza cupra , spot on for the money. You could get a mint one for 3k proberly with a k03s and a fmic exhaust ECT good for 220 bhp in a light car. Put a k04 on and it will do 275 bhp. Also the 1.8 20v is a great lump.
