Reset it today before going to Glasgow and got 37.6 mpg. Surely that can't be right ? I normally get around 28-29.

Used to have an average of 32 / 33 mpg on long journeys so thats prob right depending on your driving. Im now doing short journeys and getting around 25 mpg.

I can honestly say that I obey the speed limits at all times.

Just steady driving, not taxing the engine and keeping a higher gear as possible and changing gears at around 3k revs should do the trick and stick to 60mph on motorways in 6th. Very hard to do for a long time in a VXR. That should get you in the high 30's for mpg.

lol. speed limits should be increased at certain times of the day when theres no traffic about like 3 am on any motorway

in poland it is working like that (and maybe also in some another country) - at night speed limit is higher at night... in day 50kph and at night 60kph (not sure but thing that from 23-5 o clock)
