    they are quoting miles.

    Over here we are a bit messed up, I was taught metric at school (centimetres, metres, litres etc ) but all of our roads are measured in miles, our cars have mph clocks (with kph shown as well as a secondary display). We also drink pints of milk, not litres, beer is sold in pints and we quote miles per gallon but buy petrol by the litre. Drink (water, soft drinks) is sold by the litre though!

    The rest of europe use metric far more than we do. This resulted in a european directive a year or two back that made it illegal to sell foodstuffs in punds and ounces, has to be grams/kilos now. So if you go to the supermarket you ask for 200 grams of cheese, not half a pound. Strange thing is if you eat out you can order a 10 ounce steak!


    Pressure is quoted in pounds per square inch (psi), engine size is measured in cc (cubic centimetres), injector capacity is also quotes in cc.

    Its all a bit of a mess really
