    Are these any good?

I see some do the basics of a dslr like apature (spelling) shutter speeds etc, or would I be best to get her just a point and shoot? She wants to start getting into photography but I ain't spending a fortune on her

My one criticism of (some) bridge cameras is that whilst they can do a lot of the manual settings etc available on a d-slr it can sometimes be a bit of a pain to get to those settings.

However... I've got a fujifilm bridge camera and it's spot on!!
Sold - Arden Blue Astra VXR on 19's
Ordered - Pure White Golf GTI on 18's (couldn't stomach paying for 19" tyres any more!)

Bridge cameras are good for the money and have great zooms. However, they have small sensors so arnt so great in low light.

The Fujifilm HS10 is a very good bridge camera but usually costs around £300. However, you can buy a refurbished HS10 direct from Fujifilm with 12 months warranty £203.99 but can be had for £188 using promotional code P832a4v3t8mes

Check out some reviews on the Fujifilm HS10. Here's link to the refurb site

I'd keep an eye on ebay Stew theres plenty of people like your missus who want one then get bored bound to be a bargain there somewhere

                maybe this
                http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-EOS-20D-...item25648ae245

you'll also need to find a lens cheap but thats one of the joys of a dslr

or just spotted this ok its an older model but sigma make some great cameras and lenses
                http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sigma-SD9-3-4-...item3cb8c02f19

don't let the low mega pixel put you off it'll still be better than a much higher point and shoot

                      Hope our advice helped.

I'm looking to update mine and I'll probably replace it with another fujifilm bridge camera.
